Battle..model 19 vs model 29 who wins.

I honestly believe if you reload, the 44 Magnum covers all your bases. I don't even bother with 44 Special cases. I can load it both north and south of .357 Magnum ballistics in a 44 Magnum case, and a 4" 29 is still concealable. Add a tapered barrel and you're talking about a 4" 44 that weighs less than a 4" 686. Because the 29 is still concealable and the ballistic versatility is greater than .357 Magnum, I'd go with the 29 any day.

Unless you need to hunt something that a 357 can't handle (and then I'm guessing a 6 inch or longer 44 mag barrel is a better choice) and/or you reload, the 357 makes significantly more sense.

A Model 29 44 magnum is a slam dunk in the cool contest tho. But it does lose style points in a 4 inch because you really can't pretend to be Clint Eastwood. Don't do it. Punk. :)

Aside from the Clint Eastwood point, I respectfully beg to differ... Maybe it loses 1 point.. ;)

I find a 4" m29 to be "dead sexy!"... (Fat Ba**ard voice from Austin Powers) :D

Sorry it's not the most aesthetically pleasing pic, but here is my 19-3 and 29-2 that I mentioned above....

Thought I'd do a fun little battle between probably the two most versatile revolvers that S&W ever produced.Out of these two models in a four inch configuration, which one would you choose to handle all of your chores. This would include home defense,CCW,recreational target shooting, and some small to medium game hunting. Which one would be the must have revolver for you and share with us why.

Pictures of both are welcome!

Some random thoughts,
While the 19 seems to have been cosmetically patterned after the 29 with similar wide rib barrel and shrouded ejector rod (on like 7/8ths scale) the 29 was introduced as a 5 screw gun where the 19 was introduced as a 4 screw.

IMO comparing the 2 is like comparing a 1969 Corvette with a 427 or 350 and asking "Which is better" ...
Well the lighter one handles better which is best suited to daily use, the BIG BLOCK is more powerful but weighs more and how often do you really need the extra power ?

I know but it's meant to be .Two completely opposite size and power level revolvers. Both can handel the chores listed quite well. Both have a devoted following. This is sort like a cage match with a spear against a sword LOL.

Ok I choose the 350 (357) because the 427 (44) is more expensive to operate and doesnt handle as well !

...as much as I like the 29, I'd pick the 19 because one of your stipulations included CCW. I wouldn't care to lug a 29 around all day.
