For the past 2 days I've been bustin' my butt single handedly splitting/stacking wood (all seasoned oak). Built a wood rack for the small stuff today and filled it up. I just have a couple more hours of splitting left to go, stack the pile, and I'm all set for winter. Cleaned/raked up all of the scraps and bark, and even cleaned my splitter.

And now it's time for a cocktail and a nice cigar. I think I earned it! :D

please explain this cocktail and the 2-cherry arrangement, please.

The cherries have been soaking in bourbon (I pour out about 2/3 of the juice from the jar of cherries and fill the jar with bourbon). I just set them on the top for visual effect, otherwise they sink to the bottom of the glass. The cocktail is an 'Old Fashioned'. I mix them strong. 5 shots of Old Forester bourbon, muddled orange peel, 3 dashes of Angustora Bitters, and ice. It'll cure what ails you...;)

My folks and friends, liked that drink a lot. when they got together
back in the 60's.

He also liked Yellowstone, bottle & Bond for his high balls.

Old Saying:

Man who cut own wood for fire warm himself twice!

That pile would last a 100 years in Florida. Of course people here use a fireplace for looks most times. A few heat with the fireplace or a wood stove but they don't need them many times a year.

Depending on how bad winter is this year, I'll use up most of pile. I have propane forced air, but if I burn wood I won't use much propane. Had it topped off last year and it was 3 years before that the last time it was topped off. Still at 80% now. :D

Eric, i feel that it is entirely possible that you might be completely intoxicated after such an imbibment. i will need to come by and check in person. please have the ingredients in order.

Interesting post. My sister and brother-in-law lived in northern Wisconsin and their first year there he cut all his firewood with a chainsaw. He worked in the ER in the local hospital and after his first fall season quit cutting his own wood after stitching up many forehead injuries due to a saw kickback. I'm sure pre-safety mechanism to prevent such trauma.

I don't cut my trees down anymore, age I guess. I buy about 4 to 5 cords of rounds, 16 inches, and split and stack that. No better feeling than having six cords of wood stacked in the wood shed ready for winter. I heat almost entirely by wood in the winter, although we do have an electric furnace. Wood is cheaper and somehow more satisfying.
