I have used many different cleaning products on guns. Some work great, some work okay, others not so much.

The best general cleaner that I have ever used is good ol' Hoppe's #9 solvent. Cleans great, and smells so good that you could use it as cologne.

(This is it: HOPPE'S No. 9 | Brownells ).

How many others here use Hoppe's #9 solvent? If you don't use it, what do you use?

I usually use break free blaster or clp,an ammonia based cleaner for copper, penetrating oil and flitz come in handy for lead.Hot water is great for bp or the subs.I burned out on the smell of hoppes about 20 years ago

I use Hoppes and like the smell. However, I'm switching to odorless mineral spirits (OMS) after I run out of what I have on hand because I have been using MPro-7 more and more. I think it cleans better than hoppes, is odorless and non-toxic, although it also degreases so that you have to re-oil soon after use. OMS is cheap, and is fine for soaking stuff for long periods, which is another way I used to use Hoppes.

For just everyday cleaning, Break-Free CLP, including oiling after using Hoppes.

Hoppes # 9 for barrel, run a brush through it, and any powder residue. Then blast it with Gun Scrubber synthetic, then compressed air. Done.

I started using Kroil for smokeless powder residue several years ago. Besides a cleaning agent, it has an oil base. For black powder, Butch's Bore Shine is more aggressive.

While great grandpa liked #9, science has moved ahead.
Different products for different jobs.
Started using MPro7 for my 986 with the titanium cylinder.
It works well and does no harm.
Also use Kroil, Eezox and Butch's bore shine for the really bad stuff.

Breakfree CLP because I've used it for years and because I have a gallon jug of the stuff.

Also use Kroil and Butch's.

Unless we're talking BP where are you guys getting this 'bad stuff". I probably shoot some of the worst ammo possible and it takes all of 5 min to clean with CLP, Hopes, Remoil, transmission fluid, and whatever else I've used but can't remember

i use hoppes, but kroil might be a little better.
automatic transmission fluid seems about as good as any.

Your question is way to generic. Are you talking bore cleaner? Then the discussion turns to what are you trying to clean out of the bore? Lead? Powder residue? copper residue? Each of these residues have a "best or better" solvent. I have a combination of a lot of products on the "cleaner shelf" and use each according to what I am trying to remove from the bore of the firearm in hand. I have used Shooter Choice for years as I met Sal many decades ago and liked him and his product. It could also be that I am somewhat biased as on the cleaning shelf, there are two different one gallon containers, one is shooter choice and one is kroil. That does not include about another 1/2 dozen products on smaller containers. I use what works and use a combination of these products, depending on firearm and type ammo that has been sent down range. If all else fails, use Kroil and shooter choice. Yep, have a large supply of original hopps # 9 If you guys are not buying cleaning solvent compounds in one gallon containers, you are not serious about keeping the firearms clean.

MPro7 as a cleaner. Italian Gun Grease for general lube/protectant. Variety of greases for sliding parts. I really like boron niride grease though I don't buy stuff branded for guns since it's always five times the price.
