MIL had a clogged kitchen drain this last week and we couldn't get the rodder through it. When we tried plunging the side of the old galvanized ell blew out. Pipe was totally rotted. Cut and collapsed the pipe out of the 112 year old cast iron wall fitting (win#1).
Black (water) Friday-
Today got a brass slip to thread fitting for the wall and some 1-1/2 slip tube to replace the galvanized piece. With that out rodded the drain and cleared it (love that Power Vee!)
Installed new fitting and it wouldn't stop leaking as the threads in the wall were really worn. So I tried an old time trick- wrapped the fitting threads with some waxed sewing thread my MIL had, put on the tape and cranked it in. SUCCESS!
I REALLY didn't want to cut the fitting out and put in new cast iron in the wall - BTDT.
