I have a new 610 that is getting interference from the hammer block safety. It appears the bottom of the hammer will randomly "clip" the top of the hammer block causing a weak FP strike. I have looked high & low for "fitting" information and it just doesn't seem to exist. It rides loosely in the side plate channel and is difficult to view it's actual movement. I would guess it is possible to make the piece too short, and I don't want to do that. Any help would be appreciated. As Always- Safe Shooting.

This part AFAIK is not fitted. Is it hanging up in the races? Burrs? If its new, and youre not inclined to pull it apart, call Smith and send it back.

It is possible to buy a see-thru side plate if you want to see what is going on. Of course it is more than likely that the side plate is causing the problem in the first place. As stated above check it for burrs and burrs in the channel it runs in. If you know somebody who has one like it ask them to mike theirs for you but the chances of that particular part being so far out of spec as to cause problems are very small.

Are you seeing indications that it's hitting the hammer block?

Have you shot it with the hammer block removed & the problem goes away?

It's not a light strike problem that's just related to something like the firing pin's length is it?

If not, as mentioned, tried smoothing up the edges (usually on the back side) of the hammer block as they're a stamped part & often kind of rough there.

As crazy as it may sound, the hammer block safety was quite magnetic & would cling to the side plate when inverted out of the gun. I could see drag marks on the side of the MIM hammer where the hammer block safety had left wear marks. An old bulk reel to reel tape eraser I had made quick work of that. The unit seems to be in GWO now. Thought I'd pass it along. Thanks to those who replied & as always - Safe Shooting
