O.k. guys, need advice. What is a good bag/case to carry the AR from home to gun range? I've been looking at the Drago but hear the Condor and Voodoo's are good too.

Suggestions? Not looking for a hard case unless someone feels that would be better than a soft side case. If so please explain why.

Not like you're jumping out of a plane or anything...... so any decent case should do..... check out "Bulldog" on Amazon.... or others on Cabela's or Opticsplanet .....tacticool w/o breaking the budget!

:D

I have a Voodoo Tactical double bag and my son has a Condor single bag. Both have held up well to our use.

I've always preferred hard cases for protection. My M&P 15 came with one, but if it hadn't, I would have just picked up whatever they had at wal-mart or any sporting goods store.

I have used a Condor 42" double rifle case for several years. I can carry my Colt LE6920, my scoped Armatlite AR-10, several magazines, boxes of ammo, and a handgun or two in it. It was much less expensive than some of the others. I bought mine at OpticsPlanet.com.

For me, a $30 rifle case like Midway sells (and a zillion others like it) fit the need gong to and from the range. Most have three or four pouches on the side for magazines. Everything else is in a range bag. Every once in a while I'll see a guy at the Club with a big bag for a couple rifles or a rifle and gear. I think they look a lot more cool on the Net than they are practical to use at a range.

I quickly learned why my double case comes with a harness allowing you to carry it on your back... if you load the thing up, it becomes heavy very quickly.

But, if I am only going to shoot ARs, I can grab that bag and go. It holds my ammo, mags, cleaning kit and tools, ear and eye protection, and staple gun... no need for my range bag.

Phil and Bam-Bam as much as I agree with that, Cyphertext make a valid points as well. If I don't want to shoot the Glock I can just grab the AR bag and off I go.

Your call...... my range bags (2) and a ammo can are generally packed and on shelves by the car.......guns in the safe.

If I was to keep a "bag to grab and go" it would have; rifle, 4-7 mags (loaded) something to carry 3-6 mags in, one full reload of .223, 2 extra CC pistol mags and a 50 round box of 9mm. .........

not all the c---- in my range bags that's nice to have at the range.

I'm also from the bags and separate gun case school of thought. The function of a gun case is to protect your gun, not be a catch all for anything you feel you'll need.

I use a UTG Homeland Security Covert something or other soft case. Securely carries a lower, 2 uppers, mags, ammo, tools.

While it's a soft case, having stuff strapped in makes me feel better than loose bits in a hard case only squeezed by foam. I have hard cases, even a schmancy Pelican, but they're too bulky and heavy to be worth the hassle.

For general purposes, like going to the range, a case I picked up at Gander Mountain. They sell wider cases that leave room for rifles with longer magazines and pistol grips.

If I plan on doing any shooting prone, a case I got from the NRA Store that has a shooting mat incorporated into the the case.

I picked up a couple of cheap Plano "rimfire" rifle cases. They are just the right size for ARs. Did I mention they were cheap (less than $20 each). These are fairly protective hard cases, but definitely not heavy duty. Does a great job for keeping the guns from banging together on the way to the range.

I was able to pick this up a few months ago at walmart.com for like $50.. It's since doubled in price, but seems to have most features found in the Draco and other higher priced cases.. Also have the backpack straps which is nice for the longer hauls.

I like the bag because i can carry both my wife's and my AR's to the range. 8 loaded mags, extra ammo, magloader all ready to go.
