During the summer months I live on TV dinners, fish sticks, chicken nuggets, fries, chili, Wendy's, KFC, Checkers, and sometimes Taco Bell. Only exercise I get is yard work, and most of the time I'm on my zero turn. Plus I've been smoking over 50 years. I'll be 68 next month. My doc made me get a lung scan last year, and it came out perfect.

Got bleed yesterday, and got my results today. I must be doing something right?

Kev rides a Harley and occasionally goes shallow water surfing.

Also, his diet is JR approved.

I am happy to see his good results.

Ruthie's grandmother started smoking when she was 10. She ended up a three pack a day chain smoker. It wasn't her lungs that took her out at 94.

We are all wired differently.

That sounds like a really fun way to live until you're 125. :rolleyes:
 
Statistically, smoking takes ten years off your life span. If you’ve got good genetics, you might live to a ripe old age. Doesn’t guarantee you won’t have emphysema though. We all know one ancient fawker that smokes and eats like crap and is still living. There’s usually one in every family/group. If you know one, then it isn’t you!
 
Just turned 72 and recently had my check up. All my numbers in other areas from blood work were good except for cholesterol. Up from last time. Total is 232 with LDL at 163 when it should be less than 100. I get exercise, not overweight and eat properly but do still smoke. Doctor recommends taking Crestor to lower it. Anyone else taking it? Lots of possible side effects. (Need to stop smoking.)

"Wired differently" is probably the best answer.

I am. It can cause muscle pains/aches, but take as much as you can tolerate. It works...

Odds are Kevin will outlive most of us here as he has his mom's genes.

She is trucking right along at 85.

Mom will be 89 this September. She makes multiple drives to Casey County KY by herself during the summer. It's a 150 miles drive one way. Dad lived to 88 and died from some kinda blood disease.

My grand dad was never in a hospital till be broke his hip around 82 putting in a new fence post. I've seen him eat the fat my grand ma would cut off meat, and every time she fried something, he'd soak up the grease with a piece of bread and eat it. I think he had a stoke around 88 and died.

When my grand ma got in her late 80's all she did was sit in front of a TV eating sweets. She lived to 92.
 
While diet and exercise can help with cholesterol, it won't be a total fix if your genetics are off. I had a good eating, road running coworker whose numbers were nasty. Turned out he had inherited his dad's weakness in that department. OP's HDL could do with a boost, but maybe that is the way he's wired.
