CMP 1911 Application

I wish a hearty, "Good Luck!" to all of us! I am patiently, quietly and optimistically sitting in the 13000 range. (I have acquired 4 classic handguns since submitting my paperwork, I blame the CMP
:D)

I picked it up today. I'm sorry to say that I'm a bit disappointed. After seeing the pictures of the beautiful fresh from the arsenal rebuilds other people got, mine looks like it fell out of some weary G.I.'s holster. :(
Just proves that not all of the CMP 1911s are perfect. Some have been well used.
Its a 1942 Colt frame with an Ithica slide.
Finish is about 80% with some noticeable wear and scratches. Yeah, it has an idiot scratch too. The #1 is painted on the grips. However the bore is perfect. So while it has seen some serious use, its seems to have been well taken care of.
While it is a mix master, I noticed that there are no arsenal rebuild marks on it. I wonder if there's any significance to that?
Oh well, Its worth what I paid and I could probably sell it tomorrow for a profit. But I'm gonna keep it. ;)
What with the weather and my current schedule, I have no idea when I'll get it shoot it. But don't worry, I will.

Here's a couple of more pictures. I hope they're better than the first ones.

I like it, too. That is exactly what I hope to get.

A buddy got an arsenal rebuild with a unmarked 1970s replacement slide. It was like a new gun, but not what he wanted.

If I get the call, I’m getting the lowest grade available and asking for the rattiest one they have.

There is history in these old guns that a modern clone (especially a foreign made one) will never have.

Congrats on your collection. Obviously you are a fan of the 1911, as a lot of us are. Many of us just prefer to have the vintage pieces. Unfortunately, this is how many actually came back, a combination of manufacturers because they were using the best pieces that they had to reassemble the weapon. And you must remember, at the time these were fighting pistols, not really meant to be collectibles. It is hard to find vintage rifles that are all original, pistols are even harder to find.I like the mix of old pieces. Personally I would be happy to have that amount invested in one of the CMP 1911's.

Honestly, I was hoping for one of those pretty arsenal rebuilds. But after reading comments and thinking about it, its growing on me. Its got character. In fact, it looks a whole lot like what I used when I was in the Army way back when. It ain't so bad after all. ;)
I don't regret buying it one bit. Its a piece of history. :)

Better pictures added in post 164. ;)
