CMP 1911 Application

Les,

I'll go back & look. By serial number it looks like the frame was a 1943 Colt from what I found on the web. I'll go check the tag & report back.

I failed to mention in my first post. I'm beyond happy with it. I am thinking I'll get a "tanker" holster to go with it.

Plus this one can go with my other old GI 1911. It's a 1912 Colt frame with a Remington-Rand slide also. She has a 4 digit serial number. Now my Garand & Springfield 03-A3 have companions.

Looks great, Cory...did the tag say who made the frame? Mine said Ithaca frame and Remington Rand slide.

Yours is gorgeous!!!

Best Regarda, Les

Colt frames are pretty easy to spot, even without a CMP tag, usually by the inspector's initials. In Cory's case, the GHD is for Brigadier General Guy H. Drewry.

Your Ithaca frame is equally easy to spot. Ithaca used several unique inspection markings on the left side of the trigger guard. And the inspector's initials are always FJA.

I believe your frame dates to 1944. 1944 serial numbers began with 1155000.

Our preacher used to pastor a church in Anniston, Alabama back in the

early 90s. Several of his members worked at the Depot... He told me of

one particular member that operated a crusher called ''CAPT CRUNCH''.

I guess one or two were spared by the ''CAPT''.. You did well CORY :-)

Just got the phone call from Casey at CMP yesterday, asking for my CC information for my spot number 29xx CMP 1911.

At first they misplaced the updated FFL I sent - my FFL's license was expiring/being updated during the period since I submitted the application package originally - but I kept good records and reminded them of the date when they requested the updated FFL, and when I replied with it. They checked, found me compliant, so no harm, no foul, I should be getting mine at my FFL sometime soon.

Can't wait to see it and will share pics and info when delivered. Good luck to all those who are waiting!

My CMP 1911 for lottery number 29xx has been received! A Remington Rand which purportedly dates back to 1944, plus a Checkmate magazine. Beautiful case and certificate. Owner's manual, cable lock, and dehumidifying stick (I believe). Very happy to have received this piece of history! God bless all who may have been called to service to carry this sidearm.

For those who needed to research frames, slides, barrels, mags, small parts to determine maker of those for military contract 1911/1911A1 go to www.coolgunsite.com. Best site i have found on this topic. I used it a number of years ago to educate myself before buying my 1943 Ithaca to assure it was all original.

Keep posting those pictures!!!!

Wanted to share this with you guys...posted elsewhere, but thought I'd put it here as well:

(Quote is edited from original posting)...Found a Boyt holster on eBay as well as a 1943 dated GI belt to go with my CMP 1911A1......I found the USN marked KaBar (seems to date to 1942) and Boyt sheath (1943 dated) at a gun show awhile back. They all seem to go together. I have stood watches wearing a rig very similar to this back in the day. The gun shipped in January of 1944. Most of you guys have seen it posted before. Anyway, I didn't want to put big bucks into the leather and belt, and they were pretty inexpensive and I think are in excellent shape, considering that all these items are older than me!! The belt actually adjusts to reflect my enhanced girth since the 1960s!!. I think that this makes a nice display, but it is also useful, in that I can actually carry my gun to the range in it.

I don't get to get one at all, or rather, another one. I got one in 1962 at age 13 through the Jr NRA and DCM. WWII Ithaca that could have doubled as a maracas and looked like it had been drug behind a jeep for miles. I loved it and got to where I could dis and re assemble it with my eyes shut. Never jammed and shot way better than I did. $25+~$1 postage and was delivered right to my home.

It was also "ONE PER LIFETIME, NO EXCEPTIONS!" Shoulda let my Dad buy it instead.

Sadly, it was stolen years later by a 'friend' who promptly moved out of state.

Still have several 1911s, but care for none of them like that WWII bring back.

SURPRISE! I got the call this morning! :D
I told the lady that I thought they were sold out? She said that some people have been turning them down and they're still working through the list. I was #10263 so some of you still have hope for this year. :D
All three grades are still available. I went for the service grade.
I'll post pics when it gets here. ;)
