Hope you don’t live in Illinois, NJ or NYGun guy here 69 years old., yes I know should have applied years ago like my wife and kids did. Question? I keep seeing ads on the gun channels that I can answerer 6 questions and get my permit. No classroom or shooting. All on line and I am preapproved because I live in Florida. Is this true? Or a scam?
Thank you for the reply. I will proceed with the Florida permit as recommend. I just want it to wave the 3 day wait. I've never carried in a holster since 1974 hunting hogs. I do keep a firearm in my truck. I live in the woods, drive a Ford F 350 crew cab, diesel 4X4 so I am probably last on the list for car jacking from thugs. LOLI’m from Wyoming so a little different in Florida. I teach CC for Legal Heat at Sportsmen Warehouse. 1) get a classroom class. The feedback from the other students during the class will be very helpful. They are going to ask questions, that will encourage you to ask questions. Information is the key. 2) live range training time. Find an instructor and buy some real training. NRA’s website has a list. 3) with a permit, you use a gun in self defense, you will be in a courtroom. The jury is going to give you more leeway if you have a permit versus a constitutional right. I know that is wrong but that is how it is. 4) get some carry insurance before you carry out of the house the first time. I use USLaw Shield. Uscca is another. The internet has 8-10 companies that it will bring up. Do comparison shopping. 5) holsters. If you have somebody’s that all ready carry ask and talk about what works for them and what doesn’t. When you decide to buy be smart about it. Cheap isn’t always the way to go. Expect to buy a few different holsters until you get exactly what you want/need. And then practice, practice, practice with them until you are comfortable. 6) always carry.
GA is a constitutional carry state. I had a Weapons Carry Permit prior to the new freedom law, but have kept it up to date. $35, fingerprints, photo, and a successful background search (no class time requirement) earns you a 5 yr permit. $35 and renewal paperwork will get it renewed. While not necessary in GA, it will if needbe, reassure a LEO that you are a lawful gun possessor. It really accelerates a gun purchase (1st pages of the 4473 form only and 30 sec NICS check). Worth it.Online certification for a hand gun carry permit is completely 100% legal in Tennessee. As long as you use the state recommended course. I though it was a scam also but it's legal. Pay the online course fee, print the certification after completion of course. Take it to local MVR office. Pay the state hand gun carry permit fee ($65) in Tennessee. Which covers TBI background check & fingerprinting and photo. The very steps I followed in getting my carry permit two years ago. And Tennessee is a permit less carry state also.
I did the FL CC test and application in person. Sit down at a computer, answer the questions, took about 30 minutes. Wait another 30 minutes for the paperwork to clear, and walk out with a CC license from FL. I do have a FL address, so that was the in-state process.FL permits are issued through dept of Agriculture. They do require a course. It’s quick easy and cheap. Give them a call and they’ll explain the process
I believe NM also prohibits 2nd, or backup guns wile CCW.I've been getting those emails too. New Mexico requires a day of classroom and a morning of live fire. Oddly, the gun you qualify with is the largest caliber you can carry once you have your permit. Qualify with a 9 or .357 and you may not carry a .45 concealed.
Not sure where in Florida you live but ,most of the local gun ranges will be able to help you get the class you need for your permit.Thank you for the reply. I’m in California too.I'm in California. You guys are making me jealous. I'm 74, I've had numerous classes over the years and had armed guard cert, for a few years. I would love to get a ccw just for protection but, ,here, you need a very good reason.
Why didn’t you get one with the wife?Gun guy here 69 years old., yes I know should have applied years ago like my wife and kids did. Question?
A fugitive is not going to carjack you. He is going to take you as a hostage. The Case I was on in 1984 the hostage was lucky the fugitive was out of bullets in his revolver.… I do keep a firearm in my truck. I live in the woods, drive a Ford F 350 crew cab, diesel 4X4 so I am probably last on the list for car jacking from thugs. LOL
