Concealed Carry Permit. Is This True?

If for no other reason just the ability to purchase a firearm without a background check and possibility of a waiting period is cause enough to have one.

Even with the no permit carry in Fl. it makes sense to take a course and get the license for reasons mentioned above. It also increases your ability to carry in other states. To find a class, contact the NRA and they will tell you who is giving the class locally. I think that the generally cost about fifty bucks, for a course that could take as long as four hours.

Gun guy here 69 years old., yes I know should have applied years ago like my wife and kids did. Question? I keep seeing ads on the gun channels that I can answerer 6 questions and get my permit. No classroom or shooting. All on line and I am preapproved because I live in Florida. Is this true? Or a scam?
Hope you don’t live in Illinois, NJ or NY

I’m from Wyoming so a little different in Florida. I teach CC for Legal Heat at Sportsmen Warehouse. 1) get a classroom class. The feedback from the other students during the class will be very helpful. They are going to ask questions, that will encourage you to ask questions. Information is the key. 2) live range training time. Find an instructor and buy some real training. NRA’s website has a list. 3) with a permit, you use a gun in self defense, you will be in a courtroom. The jury is going to give you more leeway if you have a permit versus a constitutional right. I know that is wrong but that is how it is. 4) get some carry insurance before you carry out of the house the first time. I use USLaw Shield. Uscca is another. The internet has 8-10 companies that it will bring up. Do comparison shopping. 5) holsters. If you have somebody’s that all ready carry ask and talk about what works for them and what doesn’t. When you decide to buy be smart about it. Cheap isn’t always the way to go. Expect to buy a few different holsters until you get exactly what you want/need. And then practice, practice, practice with them until you are comfortable. 6) always carry.
Thank you for the reply. I will proceed with the Florida permit as recommend. I just want it to wave the 3 day wait. I've never carried in a holster since 1974 hunting hogs. I do keep a firearm in my truck. I live in the woods, drive a Ford F 350 crew cab, diesel 4X4 so I am probably last on the list for car jacking from thugs. LOL

Move to Louisiana, we're totally free to protect ourselves wherever we go, the good, the bad , and the deceased.

Online certification for a hand gun carry permit is completely 100% legal in Tennessee. As long as you use the state recommended course. I though it was a scam also but it's legal. Pay the online course fee, print the certification after completion of course. Take it to local MVR office. Pay the state hand gun carry permit fee ($65) in Tennessee. Which covers TBI background check & fingerprinting and photo. The very steps I followed in getting my carry permit two years ago. And Tennessee is a permit less carry state also.
GA is a constitutional carry state. I had a Weapons Carry Permit prior to the new freedom law, but have kept it up to date. $35, fingerprints, photo, and a successful background search (no class time requirement) earns you a 5 yr permit. $35 and renewal paperwork will get it renewed. While not necessary in GA, it will if needbe, reassure a LEO that you are a lawful gun possessor. It really accelerates a gun purchase (1st pages of the 4473 form only and 30 sec NICS check). Worth it.

While Florida does make it fairly easy and straightforward to get your concealed weapon permit, there are still standards for what is considered an acceptable training certificate. Here is the page from the state's website:

And while you certainly can submit your application by mail, I don't see anywhere there is a "6 question online process via a third-party" option. Sounds like a scam to me, wanting money for what you can do for free by yourself.

FL permits are issued through dept of Agriculture. They do require a course. It’s quick easy and cheap. Give them a call and they’ll explain the process
I did the FL CC test and application in person. Sit down at a computer, answer the questions, took about 30 minutes. Wait another 30 minutes for the paperwork to clear, and walk out with a CC license from FL. I do have a FL address, so that was the in-state process.

I've been getting those emails too. New Mexico requires a day of classroom and a morning of live fire. Oddly, the gun you qualify with is the largest caliber you can carry once you have your permit. Qualify with a 9 or .357 and you may not carry a .45 concealed.
I believe NM also prohibits 2nd, or backup guns wile CCW.

Take a NRA CCW Class that has you do real shooting and not sim shooting. If you are prior military or prior law enforcement you are exempted from firearms training. CCW is needed for other states even though they might be Constitutional Carry. CCW also allows you to purchase and take your firearm same day as you buy it.

I want to remind everyone that while permitless concealed carry is legit here in Florida, to do so you still must follow the same rules as if you took the course and test. The requirements don't change just because you decided not to get the physical license. I've run into too many folks down here (non-residents in particular) who believe that not having to get a permit somehow gets you around the rules...

Not sure where in Florida you live but ,most of the local gun ranges will be able to help you get the class you need for your permit.

I got my Florida permit with my DD 214 AND fingerprints. Every time I renew, I need to do the prints again. Even if a permit is not needed in some states, I would still get the permit as it makes so many things easier.

I'm in California. You guys are making me jealous. I'm 74, I've had numerous classes over the years and had armed guard cert, for a few years. I would love to get a ccw just for protection but, ,here, you need a very good reason.

I’m in California too.

Today it depends on which County you live in. In a Red County just a few days and in a Blue County two years. A friend just got his in San Francisco and it was 1 1/2 years.

Now I know a Veteran buddy who got his CCW in Riverside 1980 because he was a plumber. That reminds me of another Veteran who got his for Los Angeles 1975 because he was a Clerk in a Bank.

A fugitive is not going to carjack you. He is going to take you as a hostage. The Case I was on in 1984 the hostage was lucky the fugitive was out of bullets in his revolver.

1978, Gary Tison and Randy Greenawalt walked out of Arizona State Prison in Florence after a daring escape staged by Tison's three sons. Six innocent people died at the hands of the Tison Gang. A family of four were murdered and they had a 1911 pistol in the glovebox.

Florida no longer requires a CC permit.
Years ago when I got one it was joke, fill out some papers, get fingerprints, shoot one round, pay a fee .Done

Sure you learn a few things as to where you can't carry and as mentioned you can buy a new gun without a 3 day wait.

Plan on traveling they it may be good if the other State reciprocates.

Find a local place if you want one.
