Considering a Model 39-2

Buy The Model 39-2

I have collected Model 39's for well over 30 years. To me they are the best double action centerfire auto S&W ever made. They shoot great, and are fun to collect. For a gun in the description you describe you should buy it. Even if others feel the price is a little high, a few years down the road it will be money well spent. Below are a few examples of some of the collectible Model 39's I presently own.

Please post some pictures of your Model 39 when you get it.

They are great guns. I'd get a nice one and pay what you have to, just find the nicest example you can. Incidently, a friend showed me his very clean 39 with black grips. I hadn't seen one set up like that before-really looked terrific-check it out. Flapjack.

I love mine. It's a shooter; I paid $350 for it and two extra magazines and two holsters, neither of which fit. The grips are kind of scuffed up but it is a sweet shooter. No problem hitting 12" diameter objects offhand at 100 yards using $10/box Federal 115 gr. FMJ.

I have had a blued 1972 39-2 for 4 years and have been looking for a nickel one and just got one friday.great guns they fit my hand perfect.

Reading through these posts, it's pretty clear that only a few guys get it but those that do, like gooney, heekma, and armyphotog have this in the right perspective.

I mean, $450-$550 for a NIB/LNIB all metal gun of this quality is a no-brainer.

If SIG or Beretta came out tomorrow for a gun that looked like the 39, and there had never been a 39, and it was priced at $600, people would think it was a steal.

I mean people pay over $500 for plastic guns!

Like a few said, $50 or $100 either way is not important. It's not a contest to see who gets the best deal. Its just do you like the gun, is it in great shape, is the price fair - then buy it! Once its in your hand $50 or so wont make any difference.

considering a Model 39-2?

After posting this I finally was able to drive the LGS and take a look at the 39-2 I wrote about. Serial # puts it at 1970-71, has the hole in the hammer and two mags. It has been fired but I doubt more that a box of shells and the exterior is mint. I bought it and I think I did okay. Look forward to shooting and enjoying it.
