I recently got a 5903 police trade in. The internals look perfect but the alloy frame has been worn hard and the finish rubbed off in many places.

I am planning to duracoat it black and feel that it would be in my best interest to FULLY disassemble the weapon. THREE QUESTIONS....

1) Are there any videos or write ups on how to properly do this? I think all I need to remove is the trigger (and assembly) and the mag release.

2)Would it work just as well to leave it intact and just mask off what I don't want sprayed.

3)Does anyone have pics of their smith that has been duracoated, ceracoated, durabaked, gunkoted or anything similar?

I bought a tape called "Smith & Wesson Auto Pistols 1st, 2nd & 3rd Generation Armorer's Course" from Amazon.com for $20 in anticipation of a purchase that fell through. I thought enough of it to keep it. Not only will it give you good full disassembly instructions, I finally got a handle on how S&W double action pistols work. I'm still working on the S&W 952 purchase.

great. is it dvd...i'll pay you for a copy...

i'll have to try and find that one. thanks.

Its not a DVD, but an old school VHS tape. Amazon.com still has them for sale. Its worth the money. I have watched it 3 or 4 times, some sections such as how the drawbar works 7 or 8 times.

sounds like what the doctor ordered. I started taking it apart yesterday, got a few pins out then got nervous and put it back together.

If I can get the trigger and the mag release out I will mask of the rest and refinish it...thanks
