Has anyone other than me noticed the hike in prices for disposable razors???? I saw a pack of four the other day for $11.00!!!! Has the price of the blade metal increased that much, or have the blade sharpeners become unionized??? Also, how many blades do you need?? I think they are up to 4 blades available now. Geez!!!!

Get a good safety razor with replaceable blades. A pack of 10 double-edged blades is about $2.00 around me. :D
Don't forget to get some good, actual block soap while you're at it. Try Williams Shave Soap to start with- even though it's the cheapest, it's far better than anything out of a can, and your face will appreciate it. Go to something else if that don't float your boat. After all, those cans and the propane in them aren't good for the environment. ;)

We had a great thread on this a bit back.

I buy the little cheapy, single blade, black handle Bics. Good enough for me at about $2 a package.

I got tired of paying the high price for disposable cartridges and began shaving with a DE safety razor about 8 months ago.

I'll echo what Andy said. It is a much better and enjoyable way to shave. Get a good brush, and try different blades. Most places have starter/sample packs available.

I'll also recommend Kell's Original Soaps. He has three different blends to choose from and many scents.

I've said it on the forum before that I searched high and low for a razor that works well on my face and my shaved head. I bought a package at the Dollar Tree with a razor and four refills. Yep, $1. These are by far the best razors I have encountered that work great, don't cause nicks, and hardly ever clog. Those four and five blade razors are super expensive, clog easily, and don't last any longer than these 3-bladers. I absolutely love them and buy them ten packages at a time. Best value I have ever seen. Try them out for yourself and you'll see. I can get the name brand if anyone wants to know, Shoo

Like Sip, I use a Sensor 3 and really am happy with it.

There was a huge thread here, or maybe on the Sig forum about how to make blades last longer. There was a theory that rust is what caused the blades to get dull. Someone sells a product that they recommend you store your blades in to prevent rust. I wasn't interested in buying the product, but I did put some baby oil in the bottom of an old peanut butter jar and then place the razor in. Nothing scientific, but I did think the blades did last a bit longer.

I have read every word in this thread but i can't for the life of me recall what a razor is used for:p

Job interviews, if you're in the boat with me and the other 10% of the country.

What you need is a quality Solingen made straight razor. The "Bismarck" brand (named after the old iron chancellor) are a good value. Get a strop and what not and learn to keep your hands steady, it'll last forever. If your hands shake, find an old barber that still gives shaves to do it. Your straight razor will last forever.

Of course they used to call them "cut throat" razors for a reason...

You don't have to do that Shoo, we have a local Dollar Tree here. I just don't know which pack you like. They have several different ones at the store here.
Thanks,
Steve

I got a 12 pack of single blade disposable razors for $1 at my dollar store. They are labeled "sensitive skin".

I tried Bic sensitive skin razors years ago, and they wouldn't cut close enough. These chinese knockoffs actually do a good job. I don't nick myself any more either.

I will buy more of these.

I was shocked at the price of blades. I have been using Gilette Mark three turbo for many years. They were neatly bundled in a four pack. About a year ago, the pack increased to a five pack. The price steadly increases every month. Last week, I noticed a five pack for $12.99 and this week the price increased to $14.99 a five pack. Roughly, each blade cost $3.00 each. I priced them at both Publix and Walgreens and they were the same. I try to use a blade a week but that is pushing it. I have a heavy beard and need a good blade. I was thinking of growing a beard and not shaving but I think my wife will throw me out of the house. I guess I will have to suck it up and pay for the blades. It's hard when you are on a fixed income and the Government refuses to increase our cost of living increases for Social security and yet the cost of products increases every day. I don't want to get on my soap box but it sucks. If anyone finds a blade that will work for a week and cost less and does a superb job other than Gilette, please let me know.
Nick

One of the reasons for the high price of blades is because they are one of the most stolen items, got that information from someone in the retail business. Guess who pays the cost of all that stolen stuff ??? Yep, us gun totin' honest folks. I'll post the name of the razors at Dollar Tree once I get home, Shoo

+1 on the Straight Razor. I use either a 1920s or 1950 W.R. Case razors. Except when deployed....coming back through military customs with a razor is a hassle...

Anybody ever use that "as seen on tv" thing that supposedly resharpens disposable blades? Save-a-blade I think it's called. I've been keeping my mach 3 heads with the idea that somewhere down the road I might pick one up. Looks like it might be a gimmick though...
