I'll take a crack at it. According to the catalog BRF was 1994 and CAM 1996, so somewhere in there.

Congratulations on the purchase of the 617 as thay are awesome shooters

mine is CAE11XX so i guess that puts it somewhere in between

My first 617 was 391.00 new in the early nineties. My last one which was a 617-1 was 975.00 last year. I have a 617, that I got on a trade for 350 a couple of years ago. They are extremely popular and hard to find.

i can attest to their popularity...i have been trying to gather them up when i can find them...got my 617-1 6" with box a month ago for $600.

I agree, I have been looking for 4 months. The only good part of that was I found my model 66 and a very clean 15 so they were added to the collection. I'm looking forward to shooting it this weekend!.
Thanks for the info~~

I finally found a 4" 617 no dash this month (July 2011). I paid $735 all said and done, but it was the exact version I wanted. I had been looking for one like it for a few years. Earlier 617s don't come around that often. The seller had gotten it with rubber grips but replaced them with some nice football targets to sweeten the deal, but were incorrect for the 617 no dash, according to the SCSW. Luckily I had a pair of of the proper combat grips that I had bought some years earlier. Using a little reverse inflation calculation equated the sale price to $388 in 1990 dollars. That took a little of the sting out of the deal. Plus the target grips are worth $75 to $100 if I decide to sell them, but they will probably end up on another K or L frame in the future. After all, I have the grips so I need the gun to go with them.

I recently purchased a 617-1 with 4" barrel for $610 total. It came with box, original papers and was sold by the same shop that originally sold it new in 1997. The original sale tag had the prices of $468/369.95.

Serial # CBW38XX.
