Reload and its about .22 - .23 cents per round.

That's how/why I was able to spend 4+ hours at the range on Monday, put 430 rnds downrange and not care much.

I bet you have a progressive press.

High volume reloading of .223 on a single stage is not fun.

Nope... RCBS single stage.

Reloading .223 doesn't bother me on it. Can crank out a couple hundred when the mood strikes me and by the time I get back to the range, its been reloaded.

Got about 150 left to reload right now.

Wow. I load using a Lee Breech Lock Hand press. By the time I'm done with 100, I'm not in a good mood.

Precision shooting is one thing, but if you don't enjoy reloading bottleneck it just ain't worth it for AR volume shooting.

Only problem I have loading volume, is dealing with military brass. Its all I shoot. However, I only have to really deal with preparing it once. That's really my only beef with reloading is preparing once-fired brass. Tears my hands up. But, I've got a Lyman Case Prep Xpress now and it chews thru the military crimps, like a champ.

But, loading... naw. I am an OCD person and as my dad said, "anal retentive enough" for reloading to be right up my alley.

These are just my reloads.

First pic, is about 2/3rd thru my first run, think I loaded like 380. Next pic, is 210 left over from last weeks reloads and 345 loaded, taking my sweet time, the last few nights.

Like Phil said, precision bench shooting is one thing, but for volume shooting a progressive is a necessity.

Reloading will save you thousands in the long run. I don't like reloading, but I do it so I can afford to continue to shoot like I do. I got a Dillon 550B and it's a marvelous thing. There are faster presses, but this one suits the shooting volume I do nicely.

I haven't loaded .223Rem yet. I've started with .45ACP because that's what I shoot the most (not counting shotgun). You will be amazed at how much easier it is from a single stage operation.

A progressive is not a necessity, IMO.

Every person, that got me into reloading and it was quite a few I talked to and read, before I jumped on board... said, "start with a single stage press". Not a Lee handloader, or a Dillon Progressive (which is what my dad uses).

I shoot and load plenty of volume. I don't know very many people... in fact, none of my personal friends... shoot 430 rnds of one caliber, during one trip to the range. Last time I told a buddy that, he laughed his butt off and claimed that was like 5 trips to the range for him. Me? Not unusual. I will put a minimum of 250 .223 rnds downrange, if I take other firearms with me... but, if its just .223, there's going to be a lot of it shot.

Because I don't mind, its not hard and I can reload those 430 rnds, working a couple hours, over a few nights and have all 430 rnds back.

430 rnds a week, buying bulk, would still cost me close to $800 bucks a month. I can reload that for under $400, and around 30 - 35 hours work, spread out over the month.

Well worth my time and effort... and it just gets easier and faster, the more I do it.

Precision shooter? Me? No way. If I can consistently make the chicken, pig and duck silhouettes go *DING* at 200 yds using irons, I'm a happy man.

This is what I got and I'm more than happy with it. I'll eventually upgrade things, but I'll start probably with the hand primer. Then a new scale. Thinking about the powder mount for the press, but I'll probably just upgrade the press at that time.

Don't go sinking all your money into a press, until you know a) what you're doing and b) know that you want to do it.

Yje Sport handles "cheap Russian made ammo" just fine. I run Wolf Polyformance 55 gr .223 and Wolf Military Classic 55 gr .223 thru mine with absolutely no issues. Both are steel cased ammo.

If you don't like the idea of steel cased ammo because you want to reload or just don't like the idea of steel cased ammo, you can run Wolf Gold, which is brass cased, in the Sport problem free as well.

Wolf gold is great, but not Russian made. I believe it is asian made and not anyhow as cheap as tulla. I am not planning to replace my barrel or rifle soon and also cleaning after very dirty burning tulla or any other Russian made ammo is a double work. So, no to me.

Yep, lots of Sport guys here. The Sport is virtually the "everything you need , nothing you don't" rifle. There are many "Black Rifle" guys who see the Sport as a cheap entry level rifle with no forward assist and no dust cover. It is in fact an inexpensive gateway rifle leading to many fun adventures with none of the frustration of other "entry level rifles". I should clarify "inexpensive", as that pertains to getting one, after that you're on your own (although there are many here who are willing to draw you into their fantasies and support your habit once you're there).

As for installing the muzzle brake, if you don't live where they require the flash suppressor to be welded or pinned, it's just a matter of unscrewing the birdcage, installing a new crush washer, then installing the new brake. Specifics on the installation, such as torque and positioning, are generally included with instructions provided with the new brake. That's all there is to it.

Yes... I now own another Sport. Or, I should say, I paid for another Sport today (plus extra hardware). My wife has to go in tomorrow to fill out the paperwork and then wait her 10 days.

However, this is what she will have, 11 days from now. I have a spare Magpul rail and a couple black vertical grips, which she wants one of... so it will have that also.

But, I'm sure everyone's seen at least one Pink Sport. The basic premise. Its her birthday/anniversary present.

The biggest improvements I added to my Sport was the H2 buffer. Throwing brass went from 3 yards to 1yd. I also added a Wilson Combat trigger (ttu single stage). Primary Arms Red Dot. No regrets.

Hi, I'm a new guy to AR's. I've been re-bitten by the shooting bug again after several years of rarely going out. I was mostly shooting my SKS (Chinese Paratrooper shorty) and various pistols from .22 to .45 calibers several years ago.
Recently my near future son-in-law showed me his DPMS AR and that was when I decided on getting one. I hadn't shot anything like that since the M-16 I qualified with in boot camp at Edson Range during the last century.
I did my homework and decided that the S&W M&P 15 Sport was the best choice in my price range. Well, I bought one yesterday along with 240 rounds of 55gr. ammo. Now all I gotta do is wait until the 5th of August to get it. Needless to say, I am limited to 10 round magazines and have to deal with the stupid "bullet button" thanks to the California anti "assault" rifle laws.....BTW, the California politician who helped write these new laws was recently arrested and charged with illegal assault rifle gun running.
Anyway, I've been enjoying the forum topics and it looks like there's a lot of good people and advice here.

Just bought one, and it's a great gun. I can't believe the quality and ruggedness. Sights were dead on, and it shoots everything you put into it. You can get the Magpul Gen2 Pmag magazines all over the internet for $8.95. Wonderful gun.

I had bought mine at the end of 2012 for about $650. R5 barrel 1:8 twist. Fantastic shooter once sighted in. I had to drop down the front post site 1 click & that did it. 75 yrds on iron sights got me some 4"-5" groups. I could barely make out the red target area from that distance but damn I got them. I had put in a skeletonized timney trigger, man what a difference, & also changed the grip. I miss that gun, sold it when the prices went nuts.
