does your dog "talk"?

Does Your Dog Talk

Absolutely! However, he is having trouble with his spelling and his math needs some work. I don't want to push him, since he's only 11 months.

I had a litter of five shepherd mix dogs and two of the five would do that but the others did not. The two that did that both had yellow eyes and copper noses. Beautiful dogs.

My German Shepherd, Max, has a number of barking behaviors that he uses to communicate with us humans. In the mornings at 0600 he stands by the backdoor, "woofs" his request to proceed to the back 40. Shortly as I make coffee, he comes in and stands by the counter and "woofs breakfast" while making a sharp glance to the old cookie tin that now holds doggie treats. Riley, his female companion is silent as he does all the talking!!! Both are treated to big doggie bones. When the coffee is done, Max starts barking and pointing to the backdoor. Our routine is to drink coffee on the patio and watch the dawn, all 3 of us. The woods awaken to the sounds of birds and squirrels jumping from tree to tree. The dogs sit and alert to the sounds. The dogs over the hill stir and bark, sometimes a distant coyote howls along the Yellow river, a distant mile away. A grey squirrel forgets that he is in enemy territory and runs down the tree next to the patio, all hades breaks loose, but they are yet to catch him. Grey is as swift as the wind! My career with the military and foreign service time never allowed me the benefit of owning a dog, now, I know that they are truly a gift from GOD. They talk, we only need listen.

hello all,
im typing this as fast as i can cause "somebody" wants to go outside and play!
i was typing/ reading some other posts when from behind me i heard a long drawn out AROOROORA WOOWOORA WOOORARA WOOO or something equal to that effect .
he puts me in stiches whenever he does that, sometimes he makes the funniest sounds -i can only guess hes trying to speak english??he got his point across anyway,we are going to go out and play for a while.
how did we go without a dog for so long? my heart is about to burst with pride and love...i guess hes like my second son.
does your dog have a special or funny way of communicating with you?

Well heck yes my dog talks. Have your's call sometime.

My border collie definitely talks - tries to mimic the same noise range I have with my voice either to talk to me or to herd the other dogs. My golden that I lost a few months ago (my avatar) would whine so happily when he would see anyone (toy in mouth only) and occasionally would get so happy that he would almost groan with happiness. My other two make no strange noises; one barks and the other one has a HILARIOUS smile.

Nice looking dog btw :)

My first Sussex used to watch TV and do the woowoowoo all the time. If she saw any kind of 4 legged animals on the TV she would sit there, wagging her tail wooing as if she was asking them to play. She got to the point she knew the background music of all the commercials on TV that had an animal in it, and would wake from a sound sleep and run to the TV before the commercial was half over. She rarely ever barked, and the oddest thing is, she would not make a sound if she was meeting another dog in face to face...err...face to butt....;)
That reminds me, I need to dig out the old VHS video I have of her watching a dog agility contest on Animal Planet on our old console model TV, when the dogs would run to one side or the other, she would run around that side of the TV and try to catch them on the other side....gotta get that off the old tape before it's no good and convert it and get it burned to a disc.

My current Sussex only does the woowoo if he's having a dream in his sleep, he'll start snoring even louder, his feet will start going, tail wagging and howl and wake himself up....

Both of my huskies are very vocal. I think it's the breed. Non of my other dogs over the years did anything else but barked. Kyra will AROOROORA WOOWOORA WOOORARA WOOO when she wants to go out, or play. Sadly I had to put down Shylah last monday. She was 15y.o. Kyra is 5.

Shylah.

nice dogs, sorry to hear about Shyla thats gotta be hard to loose a friend of 15 yrs.
smith is a good friend to me, hed never betray me ,but he would eat my lunch given half a chance:)

My three are both chatty and very comprehensive, but they become oddly uncommunicative and incomprehensive when either something gets knocked over or it's time for something they don't like, such as baths, nails clipped, etc.

Your boy's beautiful, btw; his eyes are a most striking blue.

My 145lb female Dottie would do a low growl when anyone petted her. She would do this all the time. If you mentioned "McDonald's cheeseburger" she could actually smile. She loved cheeseburgers plain of course. My yellow lab pup knows the red and white McDonald's bag when I come home. I also take the dogs for ice cream too. They need a special treat too.

Yes I had one dog that would sing when I played my harmonica or the phone would ring. Another that would sass me when she was mad or in a mood with us. My current dog when he thinks he is entitled to something or if we have been gone longer than he thinks we should have he lets us know about it.

OT, BUT with my last 3 feral cats I took in I kind of tamed them but I can talk to them and the come when I whistle for them. I squink my eyes at them and they sqink back at me. All three were kittens that fit in my hand when I got them. Since they are all black no one wanted them. When I first purchased our new place in the country we were over run with rodents. These kittens are now full grown cats. When there inside there your normal house cat but when they go out side they turn into tigers. Anything that moves isn't safe. They kill snakes, mice, moles, crows in my corn, chipmunk, and go after Turkey's which I stop them.

I find abandon kittens all the time too when I fish in the wilds. People just dump them. My first two my vet said had one day to live if I didn't save them. Right away to let them know it's ok I feed them tuna. One of he three brothers was about to die with his head slumped over my arm when I hand fed the little guy and he came to life. Dogs a talk and cats do too.

BTW, I had a pet parakeet as a kid and it lived to 14 years old. Around 8 years old it was on the bottom of the cage floor still breathing but lying down. My mom gave it some whiskey and it came back to life. After that it fell many times to the cage floor and I think it was for another shot of whiskey. The animals aren't so dumb are they?

On a sad note, I just lost the first kitten I ever saved yesterday after having her for 13 years. She was under my vets care because of a rapid weight loss. She lost two more lbs between vet visits. The other night she just died suddenly. I knew she was going. A year ago to this month I lost my 145lb rottie to cancer. She was in my wife's arms when she took her last breath that morning. My three kids showed up that night out of respect for her and we buried her. She had a little funeral. She was 10yo and my kids grew up with her. I was really proud of my kids that night. The night before her death my daughter got her a cheeseburger. Her face lite up when she seen the cheeseburger.

I learned soon after that the bigger dogs only live for 10 years on average.

All the animals talk in some way we just have to figure it out. There is lots of info on the net about it.
