Still waiting on my 629. The seller called it a 629-1, but it has football targets on it, and no pin. I heard the no dash had footballs, and the -1 had cutouts.

I can tell a 28-2 from a 28-3 (no pin on the -3) but how do you nail down the odd 629 to a mfg period without seeing the S/N and model number stamp? Most N frames skipped the -1 designation as I recall. Does -1 mean no pin...?

The 629 P&R has the designation of 629 without a dash on the gun. Its the only 629 with the pinned barrel and recessed cylinders.

I think it was made for 2 or 3 years only.

The 629-1, -2, -3 are common and all great guns.

Don't know about the footballs. I have the -1, -2, and PR. All of mine came with the footballs. Of course all my barrels are 4".

The revolver shown in the photo is a 629-1 and has the correct stocks on it. Looks like a nice gun.

Thanks all. Thanks Doc. It does look nice. I feel like I stole it at under $600. Probably not, but nothing else at auction came close to that price. Love the 4-inchers, which seem hard to find and are always pricey.

I asked about the grips because I have a set of nicely figured football targets that I bought for a 28-2, but it's an S frame and looks better with the diamond magnas on it, so the targets will go on the 629.

Not to mix models in one thread, but it's hard not to share this pic.
