Ever sell a S&W and regret it?

I listed my model 66 for sale on armslist earlier this week. I had not shot it in a while and my reason was to try and get some extra cash, as I'm getting married in May (there have been expenses.)

Well I kid you not, but within the first two days I had three interested buyers who wrote me some very similar stories about how they had once owned or carried a very similar model 66. Each had let it go and regretted since.

This got me thinking. Last night I was handling my 66, just admiring the beauty and as I cocked and pulled back the hammer a few times I realized what a great gun it was, worth more than what I was asking. Needless to say I am getting ready to take down the ad. I'll be selling my watches instead...

Over the years I've bought, sold, traded, given away a number of handguns, some of them S&W's. A couple that I wish I'd kept come to mind. The first 18-3 that I ever owned. The first 17-3 I ever owned. The first 28-2 that I ever owned. Nowadays I've been able to replace the 18 and 28. The 18-3 I now own was bought from an acquaintance who was reaching the end of his struggle w/ cancer, a struggle that took his life not to many months after I bought his revolver. That was in the summer of 2000. The 28-2 I now own came from my identical-twin brother (deceased). He had bought two from various officers in the sheriff's dept. where he served. We were at the range shooting a battery box full of .38's and .357's. It was a wonderful time, cocked the hammer so much I had to put tape on the ball of my thumb where it got sore. As we were packing up, he asked me which revolver I thought was the best. I told him and he told me to take it home. As to the 17, I'm still looking. One day I'll have enough nickles, dimes and quarters saved, someone will put a nice 17 up for sale here and I'll be able to replace that 17-3 I let get away... back in 1985. However I doubt I'll be able to replace the Safariland flap holster and belt. Oh well! C'est la vie.

I sold a model 41 in 22 short about 20 years ago. It was an original short, not a conversion. I needed cash in a hurry for something that I can't even remember and dumped it for a few hundred bucks . Other than that, I've not sold off too many guns over the years. When I did, it was usually to upgrade my collection.

Oh, over the 50 plus years of buying and trading guns, there are many that I have regrets over. For Smith & Wessons there would be two in particular. One would be a 617 no-dash 6 in bbl full target, and the second would be an older model 41 5 1/2 in heavy bbl.

When I start having serious regrets about the many very nice guns that I have let go, I remind myself that if it weren't for trading guns, I would never have owned as many as I have. Don't know as it really makes me feel any better, but that's what I tell myself.

I use to EDC/CCW with a very ugly, flat latch Chief's Special Model 36 no dash that was blued (blued be gone pretty much pewter) color. Didn't think much of it after I got my Colt DS to carry but now that baby is being missed. It shot like a dream. Only shot regular .38 special but was accurate out to like 30' with no problems. She was ugly but boy could she work. I think about her all the time haha.
