Depends on how you measure favorite. If it is how many rounds and hours in use at the range then my Ruger .22s are my favorites. If it is how many hours carried in my pocket that would be my Ruger LCP. Now just outright favorite.... Colt 1911... just cuz.

Well, not necessarily a favorite, but it has history. I inherited Dad's Walther P-38 German army sidearm he brought back from Europe in WW-II. It was built by Spreewerk under license, in 1944. I've owned it since 2001, when Dad passed away, but never fired it until a few weeks ago.

I put 6 rounds through it just to see what it was like. It was fun, but I felt odd at the same time. I felt that it's more a piece of history than a firearm. When I got home, I carefully cleaned it, and returned it to it's holster.

Don't store guns in holsters. That can cause acids in the leather to rust them. Leather can also retain moisture.

How did the P-38 shoot?

Without a doubt my favorite non S&W is my much used Series 70 Colt Gold Cup .45 (purchased in 75). In fact it’s my favorite handgun period and if by some weird reason that was the only gun I could own that Colt would be it. Have enough parts to keep it running for a long time if necessary.

I carried it as CCW for years after I stopped shooting Bull’s-eye with it. I did a few mods and used it for our clubs combat shooting, PPC and even bowling pins. Mods consisted of hogging mag well, putting in a longer slide drop lever and solid pining the rear sight. Thousands of rounds put threw it over the years.

It’s now semi retired and only shot on my back yard range as I do no more club shooting events and for CCW I now use a much smaller and lighter XDs.45 for bad area carry and a bodyguard.380 for normal around town.

Springfield Armory 1911-A1 loaded target model .45acp stainless - what a sweetheart. So easy and fun to shoot that I'm going broke buying ammo.

1. Colt Trooper .357
2. Ruger Security Six
3. Dan Wesson, both the M-12 and M-15
4. Browning High Power. My first handgun
5. High Standard Victor. It's the one I really learned to shoot with.

Since my duty weapon is a USP 40, I've grown quite fond of H&K. My hands down favorite to carry aside from a Smith, is my P7 squeeze cocker. The guns only downfall is it feels as if I'm carrying a cinder block on my hip. I have a Kahr P380 that slips into a pocket unnoticed as well. The rest of the fleet get carried once in a while. Once muscle memory gets used to something, I try not to stray too far from it.

In .22 I like military grip Hi Standards or Mitchells and in 9MM I like my Mitchell American Eagle luger. Jeff
