The only nut I have ever grown was sweet pit apricots. As a kid I remember eating the apricots and taking a hammer to the pits for the seeds. I have not seen many other trees and none since moving to a cold climate. I like peanuts, almonds and pistachios by them selves, pecans in a pie and walnuts in Greek desserts.
I keep a bag of salted in the shell peanuts in my shop. I'll snack on them while working. If just want to have nuts while looking at T.V. it's cashews,.
As a vegetarian I rely on nuts for a big part of my "meat substitution" plan. Raw almonds and walnuts for their nutritional values added to oatmeal and smoothies. Brazil nuts just because.... shelled peanuts are good too, but I think they're actually a legume, and add them and natural chunky peanut butter to brown rice and eat it with lots of siracha.
And when ever I go down South...boiled peanuts!!!!!
