First Gun: What Was Yours?

My first gun was a S&W Model 15-3 4" Combat Masterpiece which I bought in 1968. I traded it in for a S&W Model 19-4 4" Nickel Combat Magnum in 1977 and carried that gun until I retired in 2001. Both were great shooters!

First I ever owned was a glock 19 that my uncle bought me when I turned 21 and got my permit. First I ever shot was my father's marlin 60. Such a great little 22 I bought a used one myself years later.

In 1971, I bought a Ruger MkI Target model with 6-1/2" barrel (?) and adjustable sights. The bad news was I bought it in Wisconsin (my home state) but was stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base, NY so my pistol stayed in Wisconsin. I believe I paid $57 for it.
Fast forward to about 1983 and I traded the Ruger, an 8" Colt Trooper Mk 3 in 22 LR, and $100 for a S&W M52 new in the box at a gun show in Minneapolis.

First gun was an Ithica model 37, looked first at a Mossberg but after half a dozen had split stocks, dad threw in some extra cash for the 37. Sold it for first handgun, a TC Contender in 44 mag. Now have 17 Contenders and recently picked up a used 37. Was the start to an interesting addiction.

My first was a 22lr Remington bolt action rifle with tube magazine.
My dad taught me to shoot it at age 8.
We lived in Phoenix.
Sadly, when I was away at college, my mom sold it.
I wasn't happy about that at the time, but I can't complain as my parents paid for my 4 years of college.
Very accurate rifle that old Remington. I recently bought a Marlin 39A to get back in the 22lr long gun business. The Marlin is just as accurate, and from the same era -- 1956.

Montgomery Wards double barrel 16ga was my first long gun. The first firearm I actually purchased was a new Colt Trooper MK III in 1978. Neither are still in my possession.

My first gun was a BERSA model 644 caliber .22 lr, I bought it in 1982 and I still have it. It's nice to see that many forum members keep their first gun.

1st gun?? A H&A(?) RANGER #2 in 30 RF with the firing pin filed off. Given to me by my Dad when I was about 5 years old. I remember shooting paper caps in it and I don't know how many blood blisters I got from being pinched by the hammer when I was careless loading the caps....
2nd gun (and first gun that actually worked) was a Stevens-Springfield Model 15, bolt action single shot in .22. I was probably around 12 or 13 and it was my father again. After that I discovered that I could trade things for guns and that's when all the trouble started.....

Winchester M77 .22lr
JG Anschutz bolt action single shot 22LR rifle. Simple little thing. Very accurate. Pre Nazi era German proof marks.
My father brought it back from WW2 Europe. They kept it in the Sherman (20th Armored Div/7th Tank Grp) as a 'meat' gun. Much easier to use than an M3 for that purpose or the earlier issued TSMG.
There was originally a small, I'd guess Goat skin leather draw string bag (very soft leather) with it that contained some old ammo. I remember that as a very small child.
I also remember...
'Don't ever, ever touch that when I'm not around..!'
The rifle and ammo was from one of the firearms round-ups in one of the occupied towns & villages. The rank and file weren't allowed to have much from the pile before they ground them to bits with the tanks.
The Officers of course took pretty much what they desired according to the OldMan.
Different Units had different ways of doing 'business' I'm sure.
Still have the rifle. Don't know what happened to the small leather bag.
Shot a lot of woodchucks and some squirrels with it back when I still hunted. I still take it to the range once in a while.
Very relaxing shooting a Single/Shot.

Never though of it that way. Makes a lot of sense. I shot my older brother in the back of the thigh with a pellet gun. He beat the snot out of me. Rightfully so.....

Mine was an Ithaca M-66 "Supersingle" 20 ga., that I got for Christmas about 1966 I guess it was. A single-shot, break action shotgun, with an underlever that made it look a bit like a lever action rifle. I suppose all the western TV shows and such were an influence.
The next year I got my first job, and save enough money to get my mother to order a Sears-Roebuck double 12 (Stevens 311 rebadged) from Sears for me. In those Pre GCA-68 days, a Sears truck delivered it to the house a couple of days later.
Wish I still had them.

First one for me when just about 6 was a lever action BB gun, not a Red Ryder, IIRC it looked like a Winchester lever action but so long ago to not remember the model but probably a Daisy, this would have been in 1969 or 1970 or so.

That would be a Belgian made bolt action single shot shotgun in 9mm rimfire, a gift from my late uncle Paulo when I was about 10 years old.They were called Flobert around here. When ammo became scarce dad has his gunsmith Joel to convert it to a centerfire piece to a round known in Brazil as 9,1 X 40. It can use the .38 spl also but accuracy is lacking due to its smooth barrel.
That´s Father, Mother, 3 hunting dogs , my dog Tejo on the right and myself holding said gun.
The hunted animal is a rodent known here as Paca.

my first "purchase" was late summer 1979... right before 8th grade... saved my paper route and birthday money up and "proved" myself worthy of the privilege to my parents... father was proud and mother hated guns... it was a brand new Remington 870 featherweight 20 gauge... a neighbor on my route had a 870 in 16ga I fell in love with... and my hunter education teacher had a featherweight 20 gauge that fit me better... I was 13 at the time... I still have the shotgun... box & papers too... I was smart for my age... still am...lol took my first pheasant with it... have been an 870 fan ever since... sad day for my father... he was a Winchester model 12 guy... oh well... at least the S&W part stuck...
I suppose the Crossman Pump-up BB/Pellet gun, when they first came out; the stock & forestock were real wood. Had to be maybe '66/'67, when I was 9 or 10? It was still at my parents' working 'til the check valve or piston, whatever, gave out & dad threw it out. I was deadly accurate with that gun up at our camp. Crawford Co., beautiful woods! First real gun, 16 gauge, single-shot, full choke, I believe it was Stevens. Got it at 11 years old for Christmas. Sold it in the '80s when the steel mills shut down. Dang it! I can't remember one picture of me & that gun. Maybe there was one taken at Christmas that year, but it's probably long lost.
