My first AR platform as well, this firearm is pretty sweet :D I have a suppressor for it so it should be fun though the flash hider is impossible to get off. came with an FDE magazine though the photo showed a black one so thats a nice plus. I am having issues with the rear magpul sight every time it snaps forward the two sights separate and there is significant "wobble", I am not sure if thats normal or not? you'll see what I mean with how far the sights lean forward...dont think it should be able to move that far up.

ImageShack Album - 12 images for the rest of the sight pics
Is there anything I should know as a new owner of an mp 15 22? mods? barrel wrenches and how to fix trigger creep? anythings appreciated. thanks!

The little "tab" on the rear sight is supposed to rotate forward...large hole for short distance, small hole for long distance.

no I get that, I was wondering about the other part, the larger hole also comes forward...to a degree, I would think that should be straight up and down and not be able to go forward as well??? I can always open the rear sight slowly so everything stays together but it might prove to be a hassle when it keeps moving all the time and may throw off aiming maybe?:o

Doesn't sound right. The apertures on my rear MBUS are rock solid - even to the point of nearly losing a nail when I first flipped between them. Maybe worth dropping a message to Magpul...?

the first picture I posted is what happens when I flip it open and nothing else, it rocks so far forward when it flips open that when it stops the force separates the two sights. the rear large hole sight should stay in place right? I think I will contact magpul. I just picked up the gun thursday and have not had any time to do anything but give it a once over and thought maybe you guys could let me know! thanks.

Actually, both apertures are designed to be able to flip down - without either of them gives a wide, quick cqb sight picture. Still shouldn't be loose like in your pictures though.

Mine's a Gen2 MBUS, but I think the same applies to the Gen1 model.

Suhkoi --

My sample of one (1) doesn't "auto-flip" with the sight is released.

If this is a S&W factory rifle contact them, otherwise contact Magpul.

(Blue: Thanks for the note on both apertures flipping forward. Never noticed that until moments ago.)

I have Gen1. The LARGE rear aperture does not rotate. Only the SMALL rear aperture rotates forward and back. When the small rear aperture is rotated in front of the large rear aperture ( thus making a small aperture) the small aperture stays in place when MBUS snaps into the up position. Though I could see if the small aperture was loose fitting how forward momentum might rotate it forward when MBUS smacks against the stop when flipped up.

When you fold the large aperture down on your gen2 rear, doesn't it turn the windage knob on the side too? Mine does, and it felt like I had to force it. I can't find anything saying the large aperture should also fold on the Magpul website.

To be honest I'm not sure if the windage knob is turned or not, as I only tried out the wide/no aperture setting once when I first got my 15-22, and before I zeroed it in. I generally only use the small aperture anyway, usually co-witnessing the red dot as I suffer from astigmatism and the pin hole sharpens things up a lot.

I agree that I can't see anything specific on the Magpul website regarding the no aperture option, but I do remember reading about it in several articles when the Gen2 MBUS was released; even Brownells description for the rear MBUS states "no window aperture sight option" as one of the key features.

To answer on of your original questions, brett248vista and polockexpress, have some excellent YouTube videos on the 15-22. Lots of mods and product reviews. Definitely worth checking out.

You need to be able to clamp the barrel securely in a vise to keep from torqueing the receiver and possibly breaking it when working with the barrel.
As far as the trigger, get a set of J-P trigger springs. Use some Flitz on the sear and dry fire(making sure the hammer does not strike the front of the receiver)40-50 times. Completely clean off the sear and apply a high % Moly grease as per J-P's instructions. Or, buy an after-market Fire Control Group and drop it in. Rock River Arms makes a good 2-stage group for about $100.
Do not modify the FCG otherwise.

Gun was ordered from BudsGuns, so it came as is and I do not want to hassle with the sight every time it flips open or become even more loose over time possibly separating or swinging whenever I move my rifle, I will contact both companies but dont know what S&W would really do for me....thanks everyone.

quick question again, looking at parts and what not for my rifle. I was wondering if anyone had input on Mako Israeli Defense Forces Pistol Grip (fab) for the AR15 vs the Hogue rubber grip? and if anyone knew of an FDE folding foregrip? Id like to have storage in either one so I can keep my Form4 with the gun at all times but dont know whats out there and cant find much.

I think for the case I am going to go with a 42 inch Drago
Scope is going to be a Mueller APT 4.5x14 x40 and that should do it for mods besides messing with maybe a heavier spring kit to get the action noise down while using suppressor. thanks for the other tips.

ETA:Was able to find basically everything I needed at mako for my foregrip and looking at the magwell grip, for .22 it shouldnt be a no-no.
