Food Dropped on the Floor?

Back in my backpacking days, I usta carry only what I needed. This included food. Even though instant oatmeal and ramen noodles weighed next to nothing, I still carried only what I needed.
I remember one time, after a breakfast of my last packet of instant oatmeal and a 5 mile hike, I had 'bout 10 more miles to the trail head then back to civilization. I stopped for a quick lunch of my last packet of ramen noodles to get me some carbs.
Then, when I went to take the cook pot offa my tiny backpacking stove, I knocked it over and onto the trail dirt went all my carbs.
Yup, I picked them up, rinsed them off and ate them anyway.
Yeah they were kinda crunchy but that was the last of my food, I was hungry and I needed the carbs.

Our dogs are too fast. Anything that hits the floor is gone before you even realize its gone.

On another note - I read an article this afternoon that claims your kitchen counter has more germs than your toilet seat. It said you would be better off making your sandwich on the toilet seat than on the counter.

Umm . . . no thanks.

Rusty, there was no pondering whatsoever. Maybe rinse it off if they had enough water handy. Wipe it off if they had none. But no way they'd forgo their meal!

Re dirt, I read an article a long time ago about people who occasionally eat small amounts of dirt, baked in an oven, deliberately, for health reasons. Different strokes for different folks, as they say.

Still, I know what dirt tastes like. (Not good!) I think the memory comes from playing football with my neighborhood buddies as a little dude and occasionally winding up on the bottom of the pile...

Booger sez: "I'm here to help, Dad! I'll monitor the situation here."
