Food no longer available

I remember "Fizzies". Drop a fruit flavored tab into a glass of water and it will fizz up into carbonated fruit soda. We tried to forgo the water and just pop one in your mouth. Mine got stuck in the back of my throat. Imagine me at age eight, on my hands and knees with purple grape foam bubbling out of my mouth and nose. Ah yes, the good old days.

When I first started deer hunting near 60 years ago
it was with a group of old German relative's
outta Fredericksburg Texas.

First thing out of the deer was the liver.
Various seasonings, onion and wrapped in
tin foil and placed on the back of the BBQ pit.
Pretty dang good.

Now days up at my place in The East Texas Piney woods
they have a chicken joint....Chicken Express, I think.
Very good fried chicken livers.

DUKE'S.........Better any day.

Thanks for the suggestion. Duke's is my favorite Mayonnaise. But it didn't replace the old Miracle Whip, which I still miss.

Before it was available locally, here in MN, we used to buy Dukes on our trips to Tennessee and other places where it was available. Even found some in an Air Force BX.

Love liver n onions but never had wild liver heard about some livers being so high in vitamins that they are toxic to humans
Never could remember which animals so played it safe and only ate beef liver
We would butcher steers in the fall and the liver went into a waiting bucket of water where it would soak til the following night when it was prepared with flour as mentioned above
My step dad wouldn't touch it lol but the rest of the family loved it
One food I REALLY miss is "butter horns" there was a bakery in town when I was a boy that had the very best butter horns with thick topping of butter icing and walnuts and almonds
Mom would give each of us kids a quarter to buy whatever we wanted
If I could make it past the comic books it was the bakery or the drugstore for macintosh toffee

Oh yeah ! Chicken cutlets ! Where did they go ?
I used to fry up a whole tray for supper then eat the left overs cold
I called them meat cookies lol

I remembered seeing something about this on "Wild Kingdom" or some other show like that. So that I wasn't relying on 60+ year old memories, I looked it up and found that there is a Vitamin A toxicity relating to the liver of polar bears and seals. I remember a reference on whatever TV show I saw it on that after killing a polar bear the first thing the Eskimos did was to throw the liver away.

You should never eat the liver of any carnivore. The concentrated Vitamin A can kill you.

I miss Tato skins, by Keebler.

TGIF Fridays makes the only available option now, but nowhere near as good as the original.

Many companies, especially those bought out by someone else, are using cheaper ingredients in an effort to make more money. They are making their product not as tasty as the original. Once I figure this out I quit buying that product. I still eat turkey pot pies. I will not eat liver as long as steak can still be had.

That's what happened to Breyers ice cream. They took a high quality ice cream and changed the ingredients. It's noticeably a lesser product now.
