Hello -
Last Tuesday, I decided to check out a local farm supply store which also sells firearms. Spent about 15 minutes perusing the showcases with no luck. Plenty of Glocks, SIGs, and other semi-autos but nothing really interesting to be seen. As I was preparing to leave I noticed a heavy barrel of a revolver in one of the showcases on the bottom row and pretty well hidden which I hadn't noticed previously. I asked the clerk to bring the piece out for further inspection. She did so and handed me an S&W 58 which I certainly was surprised to see. The revolver had good blueing with some scratches and holster wear. It seemed tight mechanically and was wearing set of PC Magnas. It had an S series serial number and was tagged with a price of $450 with no box/papers or tools. It was all I could do to keep from shouting when I said I'd take it. Traded a SIG which I had brought with me as trade bait. Upon further inspection at home, the 58 was found to have grips numbered to the gun and a s/n of S2583XX, a fairly early produced 41 Magnum revolver.
It seems like a bunch of 58's have been "unearthed" lately and hopefully this trend will continue! I've looked for one for several years since I sold a Nickel Model 57 6" in a fit of temporary insanity. Will post some pictures soon (hopefully). If you've been searching unsuccessfully for a 58, keep searching as you never know..................
