My boy just graduated high school (Valedictorian) and is going into agriculture at Mississippi State. We moved him into an apartment last week as he is interning for a professor thru the summer, So I must proclaim "Hail State". We were fortunate enough to see a game against South Carolina two weeks ago at the new Dudy Noble Stadium. I must say I am looking VERY forward to the next four years. Win or lose a good time will be had by ALL.

Roger - Great your son is going to State. I hope he has a great college experience there. We have sometimes been called a "cow college" by some (particularly by the other state university located somewhere around 100 miles north). But that does not bother me. We have a great School of Agriculture. I sometimes wish that had been my field of study.
The new stadium is impressive. I am not sure, but I think it is still named Polk-Dement Stadium. It has always been Dudy Noble Field. Dudy Noble Field was built and opened in the mid-1960s, in what was previously a cattle pasture. When I went to school in there (1969-73) we just had some metal bleachers behind the dugouts and a small "grandstand" behind home plate. Then in 1987, Polk-Dement Stadium was opened (at Dudy Noble Field). It was a step up, and impressive for its time. But with the new wave in stadium architecture, it had become dated. This new stadium is second to none. I was up there for the Saturday game against Georgia a few weeks ago and was absolutely amazed. I wish I had been able to purchase reserved grandstand seats.
Janet Marie Parker (I think I have the name right) is a Mississippi State Architecture graduate. She designed Camden Yards, which started the renaissance in baseball stadium architecture, as well as some other major league parks. She served as a consultant, but was not the primary architect for our new stadium. Stadium name or not, it has become known as "the New Dude". The venue has not changed, but the seating sure has.
Baseball is important at Mississippi State. It is where I really learned to appreciate the game.
Also, congratulations to your son for being valedictorian.
Hail State!
