From Here to Omaha - 2019 (College Baseball)

My boy just graduated high school (Valedictorian) and is going into agriculture at Mississippi State. We moved him into an apartment last week as he is interning for a professor thru the summer, So I must proclaim "Hail State". We were fortunate enough to see a game against South Carolina two weeks ago at the new Dudy Noble Stadium. I must say I am looking VERY forward to the next four years. Win or lose a good time will be had by ALL.

Roger

Roger - Great your son is going to State. I hope he has a great college experience there. We have sometimes been called a "cow college" by some (particularly by the other state university located somewhere around 100 miles north). But that does not bother me. We have a great School of Agriculture. I sometimes wish that had been my field of study.

The new stadium is impressive. I am not sure, but I think it is still named Polk-Dement Stadium. It has always been Dudy Noble Field. Dudy Noble Field was built and opened in the mid-1960s, in what was previously a cattle pasture. When I went to school in there (1969-73) we just had some metal bleachers behind the dugouts and a small "grandstand" behind home plate. Then in 1987, Polk-Dement Stadium was opened (at Dudy Noble Field). It was a step up, and impressive for its time. But with the new wave in stadium architecture, it had become dated. This new stadium is second to none. I was up there for the Saturday game against Georgia a few weeks ago and was absolutely amazed. I wish I had been able to purchase reserved grandstand seats.

Janet Marie Parker (I think I have the name right) is a Mississippi State Architecture graduate. She designed Camden Yards, which started the renaissance in baseball stadium architecture, as well as some other major league parks. She served as a consultant, but was not the primary architect for our new stadium. Stadium name or not, it has become known as "the New Dude". The venue has not changed, but the seating sure has.

Baseball is important at Mississippi State. It is where I really learned to appreciate the game.

Also, congratulations to your son for being valedictorian.

Hail State!

Memphis, your Bulldogs should be a force to reckon with in the post season. Led by the new SEC all time hits leader Jake Mangum I see them going deep this year.

The new Dudy Noble Field is truly spectacular....hats off to all who made it happen.

Do you have a cowbell yet? :D Enjoy the ride in Starkville.

Miss State went 8-2 in winning series this year against their SEC schedule. Of the two series they lost one was LSU :D
We will have to win our regional and then travel to Georgia (assuming they win their regional) in order to get to Omaha.
With due respect to the Aggies, I'm glad that Ol Miss snagged a regional over them ;) R-Kansas has a pretty good team this year and......I-wish-them-well.
Vanderbilt looks like the chalk.
Best time of the year for baseball.
6 top top 16 seeds with 4 of those top 8.The way the rest of the brackets are seeded We could have as many as 6 teams at Omaha
Look what Skip Bertman and Augie Guerra and the rest of those old timers did for college baseball back in the late 80's and 90's From a filler between basketball and football to an absolutely premier college sport!!!
GO SEC!!!!!!!!!

They finally finished that game? What was it? 17 innings???

I'm rooting for the SEC champion Vanderbilt Commodores.

I spent time today visiting a lot of the Vegas online betting houses. This is a general consensus of what da bookies tink.

Super Regionals Predictions:

UCLA-Oregon State

Oklahoma State-Texas Tech

Arkansas-Illinois

Arizona State-Georgia

Vanderbilt-Texas A&M

East Carolina-Louisville

Mississippi State-Fresno State

North Carolina-Auburn

College World Series Prediction:

Vanderbilt over Arkansas

It seems Tim Corbin finds a potential Cy Young Award winner under every rock he kicks over. Over the past few years the Commodores have had some outstanding pitching staffs. When you throw in their ability to hit and play defense it's hard to best them. Good luck in Nashville.

Rusty,I don't think I agree with "Da Bookies" predictions. There's bound to be at least one upset in the regionals. Should it come down to the Dores' and Hogs' I'll go with the SEC West. Hopefully Arkansas will catch the pop-up this year.

Looking forward to seeing a Dude stadium while the 'Canes visit Starkville.

Enjoy that beautiful facility because you may not enjoy the result of the game. I don't know why Miami wasn't selected to host a regional this year it can't be that they don't know how to play baseball down there. Canes are usually pretty stout.

First time in a LONG time there hasn't been a regional somewhere in the state of Florida.

But, I must say, no one earned it. Been an off year for college baseball here this year. Might be an advantage, no expectations.

Well, the Gators weren't the Gators of late. They were short of arms this year. Look for Kevin O'Sullivan to have them back in the hunt next year.

It doesn't seem like the postseason without Mike Martin. Whether they hosted or not the Nole's have been a part of it for damn near forever.

The Cane's are the third member of the "Florida Three". Jim Morris always seems to have them at home for the regionals. Definitely an off year in the Sunshine State.
