My wife went into an ice cream shop last night for a quick little snack. When she went to pay the young cashier she gave her exact change. The young lady looked at her change, including a few pennies and told her she didn't think she could accept one of the pennies and would have to check with her manager. My wife asked to see the penny thinking maybe it was a foreign one or something so she could exchange it for a legitimate one. It was a 1951 Wheatback.

...as for me, it isn't "what" it's that I am really getting old. The acceleration of change just in my lifetime I believe has helped generations gaps to become wider. The difference between my parent's generation and mine doesn't seem to compare to the gap between mine and my grandchildren's generation

Every once in a while I go to the bank and get $20 or $30 in $2 bills to use as pocket money. I get a kick out of the look of bewilderment on young folks faces behind the cash register when I'm on uniformed duty and hand them $2 bills across the convenience store counter.

I do my best to confuse the youngsters

By using cash. And I carry $1 coins around as a way of remembering a good buddy who passed a couple months back. He always used them so now I do too.

Most everyone I give dollar coins to as payment stares at them and we get to talking. Can be interesting.

Half dollar coins are good for that too.

I had to print when taking notes as a kid. I couldnt read my own cursive [emoji38]
My dad didn’t see his first car or orange until he was about 12! His dad was a blacksmith before becoming a mechanic.

How time flies. Has it only been a month since the last young people bashing thread?

I’ll give them credit, if I need help with my computer, I’m not looking for somebody my age. If it wasn’t for my niece I never would have had a playlist and have it playing in my truck.

I take pleasure in giving back the extra change am often given. Some even smile and say thank you. However if they get snotty, am a champ at adjusting, and quickly.

I worked with a young lady who couldn't read cursive or tell time on a analog wall clock.

She had the latest cell phone but one day it quit working and she had a nervous breakdown.

She just left work without clocking out to get her other cell phone!

I am so glad I'm retired!

Not all of this thread is bashing. Some of it is just musings of some things once common are now lost in the forward of time.

I don't find the girl not knowing what a wheatie is or even the abandonment of cursive to be a fault, just changes in time.

In the same token when I am reminded how much of a dinosaur I am for not using my phone to buy my coffee or not knowing how to use a QR code I am not offended at all. Its all life perspective.:D

I don't know anyone who, after high school, continued to use cursive. It isn't necessary to communicate. All the important historical documents written in longhand have been transferred to block type. Your legally recognized signature can be almost any scribble you like.

Every cash register and smartphone has a sophisticated calculator built in so making change is not a problem.

My grandfather told my dad that he and his generation were doomed to failure. My dad condemned me to the same fate. I have yet to spew that bilge to my children or grandchildren. They are doing fine, thank you.

I use the Gold Dollar Coins much like Faulkner uses Two Dollar Bills, the younger generation is easily confused!

I'm trying to do my best to remedy this situation. The first time I'm in a restaurant or bar I make sure to put the Golden Dollars in a server's hand and say that they are dollars and not quarters. I've gotten to be known as the guy with the Golden Dollars in the Crown Royal bag. One waitress told me that the Tooth Fairy leaves Golden Dollars for her children so she is always glad to see me.
