Goodbye from Cowboy117

I tend to get very passionate about certain subjects, and have never been one who was afraid to speak my mind, whether anyone liked it or not. That being said, I've been warned once or twice for the same kinda thing here. I realized it for what it was, and took my lumps and went on. Trust me, the current Administration on this board is MUCH better in my opinion than what it was in years past. I like the fact that Lee won't fuss and argue on a thread with members who step out of line. I've been here since 2005, and I hope to be for many years, and I also hope Cowboy sticks around.

For what it's worth,am sorry you feel it's necessary to leave the forum. Am a relative newbie myself ( only got interested in guns over the last couple years ) so there's not much that I can add to most discussions . I can say that I understand your frustration over being "dinged" a couple of times by the moderators. Got dinged/bashed a couple times because of my somewhat warped sense of humor that the moderators didn't seem to find the least bit funny . I even managed to annoy the monkey-boy himself when I questioned why one of my posts had been deleted ! My point is,I survived the incident, I believe that you can get past it also. What I do find a bit sad is the number of very childish posts/remarks directed at Cowboy117,a long time member who has made many interesting posts ( 1000 + ) to this forum. Another thing I find somewhat sad ( and a little pathetic ) is the number of butt heads ( don't want to trip the creative spelling filters ) that use this type of incident to suck-up to the moderators. Not cool gentlemen.

Can't wait to hear what you mean by that. Some here contribute to the "owner" of the Board because we feel strongly about it's continued success! Wait, maybe you don't realize that.

We don't want a member such as Cowboy117 to go away. "Deal with it and move on", are the comments I seem to remember in this thread.

Care to elaborate on the pathetic, suck-up comments from butt-heads, you don't like?

First you call us buttheads and then you call us gentlemen?!

Which is it?

Sounds like YOU are sucking up to Cowboy. That's fine. But if I have a choice between the two, I'll take the big monkey. :D He owns the place.

The cowboy is welcome back. But it's up to him not us. Some of us were just pointing out the facts. And I'm sure cowboy can stand up for himself without any help.

As I said, I left this thread for the discussion and education VALUE it has.
4 more posts deleted.
Make 'em count, folks, or leave it alone, please.

Ive gotten dinged a few times too ... I suppose its in how I articulate sometimes where what is said requires careful reading and comprehension. At the usual first glance much of what comes from the dark corners of the mind will rattle some cages .. unfortunately, cages stay rattled.
I like it here though .. even when it does happen I have the opportunity to shake it off and move on rather than just be crucified as happens on many other forums.

I've never been a conformist but rules are rules and whether or not I agree with all of them is irrelevent. I like playing on this playground so I play by the rules. If I mess up and get dinged I doubt I'll get too upset about it. that would just be silly.

I hadn't thought I'd reply, though I have read each post on this thread.

Initially, I thought it was pretty silly for the OP to get upset over two minor dings for CS in 18 months and leave. Sillier, even, to post his intent to leave as if Lee or the Mods would really get in a dither over it.

But, I think, I was wrong.

First of all, I have experienced (and maybe you have, too) an acquaintance that usually seemed friendly when you saw him suddenly snub you or avoid you. You had no idea what it was that caused such behavior and, maybe, you didn't bother to go out of your way to inquire and try to set things right between you. Or, if you did, you were shocked that something you said, perhaps in jest, was taken so "wrongly," or so out of context by the other person.

Here, the OP has told us exactly what happened, from his point of view, and why he's upset to the point of leaving the Forum.

Secondly, it also shows that we never know how our actions and words will be interpreted by others. I doubt that either of the dings were delivered in a rude manner, but, perhaps they were perceived by the OP as being rude or overbearing or offensive in some manner.

Lastly, we never know when something we say, even if true and even if deserved will be the "last straw" for the person on the other end of the conversation.

Things that seem trivial to us may be taken far more seriously by others than we comprehend or, maybe, than we intended.

I still think two dings in 18 months, for the same infraction, is no big deal, but it wasn't me who received the rebukes, wasn't me who had to mentally deal with them and I don't know if something else in the OP's life or experiences caused him to see these dings as more offensive than they were intended to be.

I hope he'll choose to return, but, if he doesn't I wish him the best.

Which goes to show that we should think things over carefully before we take an action that we don't really have to take in the first place, such as leaving the forum. Give it some thought. maybe there was a reason why someone attempted to give us correction. Maybe just maybe our feelings are hurt more than we actually want the forum out of our life.

There is always more than one way to take anything. Just because you are moderated doesn't mean that the administrator or moderator hates you. it's just a matter of keeping the forum moving in the right direction.

HE's stated intent is to keep the forum family friendly. And it will be the standard that he feels is family friendly since he is the administrator of this forum and it would have likely ceased to exist had he not taken charge of it. Which as he has stated meant also taking over a fairly hefty debt. Please just accept these standards and we wont get dinged in the first place. If we are talking about what this forum is about we have no need at all for vulgarity, creative spelling or any of that. I can't think of a single instance where vulgarity in any form adds to the description of a firearm.

I simply will not host a board that is rude or vulgar.
I will not host a board where boorish behavior is the norm.
I will not host a board that people cannot use to teach their children about the shooting sports.
