On my way home after work I thought I'd swing by my LGS and see what he had in. Unfortunately (or fortunately, I should say), this Highway Patrolman stopped me:

I wasn't looking to take home another Smith. I've kind of depleted my "gun money" over the last six weeks on several model 36's and a 60. I actually wanted to see what K frames he might have in, but after I held this I knew I was in trouble.

I walked away for a few minutes, looking at a Model 15 and a Model 66, but thinking about this 28-2. The balance was perfect, and I went back and held it again and took a closer look. The SN puts in in the 1974 - 77 time frame. There is hardly a turn line - near as none I'd say - and from the looks of the cylinder face and around the forcing cone I say this gun has hardly been fired, or even not fired at all. It's that clean.

The only fault is the small scratch at the bottom of the yoke.

I've read a lot about these 28's but never held one until now. Once I held it I knew I had to have it.

I paid a little more than what these go for on my local boards, but I've never seen one in this good of shape. Can't wait to get to the range!

That's a beautiful Model 28-2 4 inch and you did real good whatever you paid for it.

Welcome to the 28 club! There is just something about them, isn't there? Now you need a 6", then a 4 screw, then a Highway Patrolman (pre model), then a first year.......and if you find a -1,send it to me!:D

And your beef is what exactly?

Consider that it is money well spent. They stopped making those things years ago.

Welcome to the highway patrolman club. Looks like you scored good on that one. Good things come to those that wait I guess. I lucked into two 28-2s' a 4" and 6 " in about 90 days if you can believe it. The 4" like yours is very clean and healthy and now my main carry gun for evermore. The 6" cosmetically is a tad rough from too many days under some truck seat I'm thinkin' but a sound dang good shootin' stick none the less. Wouldn't take for either one. Was just blessed to stumble up on them like I did. Happy Trails with your new toy pardner!!

Nertz. And I thought I was going to learn something about how to handle a traffic stop. The same kind of thing happened to me last Friday. I decided to go into my LGS just to see things as if I were in a museum. I saw laying on the glass shelf a beautiful 1970 Model 15-3 looking just like the gun I qualified with in the USAF. My wife almost had to drag me out of the store like a 4 year old throwing a tantrum in Toys R Us. As I was being dragged out, I told her that the next day, I would sell 2 other guns to get this very sentimental piece. She stopped dragging. The next thing I knew, I was filling out paperwork and brought this beauty home. I got up on Saturday and proceeded to take my unwanted pieces to the store and sold them outright. The wife approved and I have a great new gun.

Yep, ya gotta watch out for dem Highway Patrolmen, you never know where they'll be lurking, just waiting to "entrap" you!! :D

Just wait til you shoot it........yeehah!! ;)

It is hard to beat an N frame .357 for all sorts of purposes including general range use, self-defense and even regular carry. It is a little big for CCW, but it can be done with the right wardrobe and holster. Get Ken Null to make you a custom holster for your new revolver.

I never argued with any Highway Patrolman who stopped me and I avoided a few tickets that I should have had. I am glad you didn't argue with the that Highway Patrolman........nice find.

I was just about to start a thread wondering why I see
so few 28-2's on GB when I see your find. That is a really
nice looking one. I got the Magnas and Tyler,
just need a gun as pretty as yours. Congrats.
