Guess I’m a dinosaur

If I can hunt one down this would be a good time to remove another XR3Red plow handle and fit my favorite, a Hunter Grip Frame. While the 7 1/2" Super B's squared guard never has hit my fingers the rounded Hunter guard look better. I never understood why Ruger reverted to the smaller grip frame for shorter barrel Super Bs.

One of our members has a Hunter Grip Frame on his stainless 7 1/2" .45 Colt BH. He should be happy as a clam at high tide.

Blackhawk

Super Bs tend to be very tight grouping revolvers. I much prefer their larger grip over the standard Blackhawk MR3Red. I let them roll in my hand until the muzzle nearly points up. Doing that makes firing standard .44 Magnum cartridges more comfortable than firing them in N frames. Super Bs are great revolvers for hobbyists and hunters. Never mind the kids. You are just as likely to need your Super B. to fight off Big Foot as the "plastical tactical" buyers are to need their new pistol to fight off who ever they're worried about.

Borrowed a friends Super Blackhawk at the range. The most accurate revolver I've ever shot. Not by a big margin, but more accurate. Perhaps it was because it was an old Super and had thousands of rounds thru it. I was a bit surprised as I am a fanatical N frame guy. And N frames are great shooters. It was, actually, a pleasant surprise. My generous offer to buy was turned down immediately.

I spotted a used stainless SBH at a shop and asked to see it. The young lady took it out but when she went to clear it she couldn't figure how to open it up. No cylinder release. No mag release. She got a little exasperated and handed it to me saying "I don't know how get these things open".

Yeah, that would probably be me. I've seen people open the loading gate and use the ejector, but have never actually done it myself. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I've ever handled a SA revolver. Someday I'll fix that. ;)

Dang you Acorn! I used to have a love for Roger BH's in 45 Colt. Owned at least half a dozen of them. Loved all but the one SS one that came to me with a barrel fit to the frame out of square.
After reading this I am hankering for another. Just something about lobbing those big ol punkins down range with a single action that I miss.

So........Chukar60, who is this "Roger" you so fondly speak of?:D:rolleyes:

As others have said, the panic buyers want high capacity and low price. Revolvers, 1911s, and higher end guns are sitting while Taurus, Glock, S&W, Springfield, and other polymer guns are flying off the shelf.

All this talk a about singles and no photos??? Here is my Vaquero in 45lc and my Single Six convertible.

I'm currently working a deal on a New Vaquero in 357. I hope my FFL is ready make room for more Tupperware.

Dino or not, I love my single actions.
Same here. My present favorite is my Lipsey Stainless new model blackhawk in 44 Special. Its the one I carry in an old M3 shoulder holster in wintertime.

When I shoot,I like to take my time...be it for aiming, squeezing the trigger or reloading.Shooting is a leisure, not a race.
And if you use it for SD and need all those 15plus shots from the polymer guns,I think that you need more time at my favorite leisure stand!A SA revolver was good then and still will do the job in somebody who knows how to use it(with sound tacticals).
The SBK is an excellent buy OP.Congrats(I know,I got one!)

Jeff, is it the shop in Dravosburg? They are only selling by appointment. Never heard of that before the current situation.

Allegheny Arms. I believe that's Bethel Park address, down Library Road (Rt. 88) off 51 S. I had the gun sent to them when I bought it through GB from DR Gun Supply. When I bought it, March 16th, I had no idea there was gonna be this rush to the gun shops...stupid me! I was just surprised to see this revolver was available, so I jumped on it. By the time it got to the store Gov. Wolf decided to allow the FFLs to only do business for face to face business, by appt. only.(FFL stuff) I don't know if you've ever used that shop or visited them, but co-owner Josh is a Helluva good smith. Beretta is their strong point, but he's very honest and their people are good. He did a great job on a .45 SA Uberti for me. Great price and very quick turn around. I saw a couple guns in their pre-owned cabinet I wanted to take home...good prices, I think, at least for me!

No never have been there. I'll have to visit them once this Coronavirus stuff settles

That might be true in NYC but was done away with years ago in the rest of the state. You can load 10.

Chapter 3 page 42A of Firearms and Weapons laws, written by Lee Thomas and Jeffery Chamberlain. (the gun owners bible)

This yearly updated publication is sold at many gun stores and can be purchased from the authors!

AFAIK the 7rd rule is still in existance, though the Capacity of the magazine can be 10rds.
Nobody could find 7d capacity magazines.

True an Erie County Judge ruled that the 7rd magazine limit that the SAFE Act layed down was not Constitutional (correct term?) and a higher NYS Court then agreed with the Erie Cty decision,, no change has ever been made to the SAFE Act to reflect that that I know of.

If there is, I'd like to know. Seriously,,I'm tired of reading through that tome of nonsense.

The only change that came close to it was clarification that exempted L/E from the 7rd limit in a magazine, their exemption from any of the provisions of the Hi-Cap magazine & AW possession .
AFAIK the orig Act was written to allow us servants to load 10 in a magazine while shooting at an 'approved shooting range' or some such wording as that.

Of course if you call or email the NYSP, AG or any of the Gov't agencys that have or may have something to do with all this, all you get is a run around and get directed back to where you started.
Sometimes you are told to check a website or just 'Google' for the answer.
That'd go well in local court...

Sorry for the rant,, we need to return to 2019BC Before Covid...
Another trip to the Discount Liquor Mart might help too.
Glad they're essential in these times..

My Wish..........everybody else sells their revolvers for very cheap, and let us dinosaurs pick up all the blued (some nickel:)) steel and hardwood guns for a song. Fingers Crossed!!!
Larry

I just got a great deal on a 24 and 29, dad passed away and son didn't care about them.
