Hand cuffs

Information to consider, related to this string. I do a lot of work under our Public Records Act. A local miscreant is the subject of a request on which I am working now. He is, as far as I know, a multiply convicted felon, with a history starting when I prosecuted him as a juvenile in 2002 or so.

The current set of reports shows in him possession (and using) a collection of items to impersonate a cop. Red and blue light bar; drop holsters, miscellaneous firearms, you name it. It is, for my money, extremely unwise to create an impression such as he has done. I acknowledge that the issue here has been presented as decent people having cuffs, but to the average uninformed citizen, the difference between that and this criminal is not reasonably perceptible.

I don’t see what difference it makes who I worked for. I think it’s more than a bit sad that a very few here won’t debate on the subject but instead stoop to ad hominem attacks. That’s the tactic used by Leftists…attack the person rather than debate the issue. Maybe some of you are closet Leftists…Antifa maybe as agents provocateur?

The fact is I worked for two different federal agencies. We had real police cars…we carried real guns…we made real arrests…and on and on. An awful lot of federal agencies sit fixed posts…we didn’t. While my career wasn’t as stellar as some experienced…I did make thirty-six arrests…all resulted in convictions…through trial or plea bargain…that does include demonstrations where we had to arrest many and either carry or drag them out. Tours of duty in criminal investigations and as an instructor. Shootings…suicides…investigated them.

I think this forum deserves better than what seems to be small people being childish over nothing more than a difference of opinion. There is a serious lack of maturity by some here.

While I don't care where you worked there really is no debate. The overwhelming majority, whether LEO or not, believes this to be a bad idea. That is because it is.

I think the issue of where you worked presented itself when you touted your experience and some confusing legal opinions.

Those are the things that make people go "Hmmm". The things that make you go "Hmmm" are the things that make you question the people who say them. You have been a detective you should understand that.

Thank you for your service.

If you decide to carry cuffs, be sure to get yourself a "Concealed Carry" badge, too. That way, police will have no hesitation whatsoever with charging you for impersonating an officer...

This is the bottom line. The question was asked and I'm pretty sure not a single person said it was a good idea.

If I was even remotely considering carrying handcuffs about my daily business this discussion would convince me otherwise.

In the unlikely event that I go back to work I'll carry exactly what my employer issues but still with absolutely no intention of ever taking them out of my pocket.

Duly noted . . .
