Handguns from the 80's/90's that didn't make it.

Got roped into a Beretta 9000 in the early 2000s. It's a
DAO 9mm. Got it for my son who was working in a
sketchy motel. Grip dissolved and it's back in the safe.

I got several mags for it at the time. NO ONE has them
now. No parts available. It's a complete orphan.

Sort of snazzy looking.
That's a generic photo.

Did DEET kill the grips?

Sterling MkII .380 pistol I bought around 1980. Roughly resembled a Makarov. All steel. My personal experience with one was that the slide-mounted hammer-block safety was ****. Apparently it was a cast piece / early attempt at MIM. A couple of days after getting the pistol, the safety lever broke off. We took it back to the store where it was purchased, and after a couple of days, got it back, They probably just cannibalized another pistol in stock. Within a few short months that safety broke, just like the first one. Didn't bother taking it back this time. Also, the magazine feed lips weren't hardened and were easily deformed. Although it was listed as either 7 or 8 rounds, I could only put in 5 before they would start popping out. So, I probably shot only one box of ammo through it before it was stolen from my parent's house sometime in 1988-1989 timeframe. Funny, I still have the original box and paperwork.

A Raven .25 auto. My wife liked it and wanted it so I bought one for her. Probably about the worst gun to buy a woman, but hey, it was cute and shiny....it's still laying in the safe.

a cheap 25 that worked better than many $$ .25's. When i had a shop in the 90s they cost us $35 and we sold for 45-50.

FWIW, Numrich has 4 pages of parts for the Beretta 9000
Beretta Auto Pistols 9000 Parts
No grips, but a lot of other parts - including mags.

Anyone mention the H&K VP70Z yet ? I think it got the drop on Glock with its thermplastic design, probably to expensive and a little ahead of it's time I guess.....

Well, since the VP 70 was mentioned -

And if the DA pull on the VP isn't heavy enough, the Sardius 9 has it beat by a few lbs -

Also have the Steyr GB and Walther P88 -

Because everyone needs a handgun that uses magazines that cost more than current plastic nines.

Coonan .357 semi auto was kinda neat but disappeared. Also the Calico .22 semi autos with the top feed spiral wound magazine.

I also own a Steyr GB and Walther P88. They are two guns that I still shoot on a regular basis

I really love my P88 with the Nills thumb rest grip installed

Magazines are not too big of an issue for either these firearms. The good folks at KKK have just released magazines for the Steyr GB last year. Like many of the KKK offerings the mag springs were kind of tight and the first round didn't like to feed, but after leaving the Mags loaded for about six months the springs took a set and everything works very nicely now.

The sample magazines that I had did rub at the very bottom as they were inserted into either of my Steyr GB's, however when I looked at my factory magazines they all had rub marks in exactly the same spot so I didn't actually worry about it too much

I have had my Walter P88 for more than three decades now, so magazines were a concern to me at the beginning. One of the things I noticed back then was that the P88 shared a magazine body with the SIG P226 and the Beretta model 92. Obviously the cut out for the magazine catch is in the wrong place on both of these

Since I had access to a mill I set up to cut the new magazine catch notch, I think it took me about 30 minutes to do a dozen magazines

If you do not have access to a mill or a buddy with a machine shop this can easily be done with a Dremel or even hand files

The one thing that I failed to notice at the time was that the SIG and the Beretta have a different spot in the follower to lift the slide hold back. One of the two of them is at the wrong height and will hold the magazine open with a round still in the mag the other one works absolutely flawlessly. I just do not remember which is which right now

I remember really wanting a P88 in college, but there was no way to swing the cash.

I can't look at the Steyr without thinking of the cheesy Rogak P-18 ads that used to run in one of the gun magazines.

I had forgotten about the Triple K offering for GB. $92.00 is better than factory for sure.

For the P88 I've done a few of the Beretta 92 magazines, pretty easy. I like the ACT made @ $19.00 each when I can't get used factory.

Very nice grips on the Walther. Been looking for replacement to the factory plastic.
