I recently happened into a very nice "Hanen Special" Model 14-2 4" K frame for less than 1k tax, tag, and title. This one came from the second run of them and has the walnut diamond target stocks. The bluing is very nice on this one and it doesn't appear to have been carried or shot a lot at all. Lock up is tight and the action is super smooth. Super happy with this addition to my small collection.

Welcome to the club! I could never decide,,, should these be called "short" Target Masterpieces or "heavy" Combat Masterpieces. They really are "special" , either way.

Did they make any of these with a patridge front sight?

Not aware of any.
They made them in blue and nickel finish.
They had different grips (Targets, Magnas and PC Magnas).
Here's three, originally from Mike Priwer's collection, I had them in my M14/Masterpiece collection for some time before downsizing a dozen or so years back.

All three lettered as shown in the above pic.

Last year at the SWCA symposium I saw a K32 four inch with a factory patridge front sight. It was in the matte finish so I guess it likely was not a heavy bbl.

I really wanted it and I liked the sight picture but $10 grand was the asking for it.

At one time I owned Dayton 14-2, K623995. That one shipped with the RR front sight in Aug,, 1965. In that order there were 180 blue and 4 nickel. Just illustrates how rare the nickel variation is.

Someone at OGCA wanted it more than me.

The Hanen Special is not a four inch Heavy barrel K-38 or model 14. It is a unique hybrid pairing the heavy barrel from a model ten with the Baughman ramp front sight commonly of a model 15. Attached is a pic of my Hanen next to a mid 50s Heavy Masterpiece, the difference is pretty apparent from that view.
