Hard or soft case. Is there good, better, best?

UPS just delivered this puppy yesterday. It's a Tac Force T.T.S 33" Discreet Soft Gun Case. The length is literally just right when the rifle's stock is fully collapsed. I purchased mine for about $70 shipped from amazon.com. Overall I'm satisfied and it fulfills my needs and purpose.

Well I picked up a Blackhawk! Soft case that was on sale and performs. 5mags spare pockets and tough as heck. Buy one and it will last.

i have my S&W revolvers in hard cases. i believe the hard case may better protect the fire arms.

For something you can fly with, and spend about a hundred less than a Pelican, check this out.
CASE-055 - Case By Starlight Cases Designed for Carbine Length AR-15 Rifles

Thanks for the link, ended up buying this after researching it. This is a really good deal, it comes with the polyethylene foam which is much more durable and firm than the polyurethane used standard in most cases (even Pelican). You have to upgrade the foam to polyethylene for most cases I saw, adding about $70 to the price.

if you plan on spending more than $70 you might as well just go buy an expensive hardcase. otherwise get a cheap soft case. the thing that is most beneficial to me about the hardcase is that i can keep other people out of it.
Exactly what I thought, and it made it easier to justify the $130 tag. Not to mention throwing it in the back of a truck.

I must say, this case is built like a tank and very well made, I'm impressed. The latches and handle are the best Ive ever seen on a case of any kind. I think you could even fit two rifles in there if you cut everything out just right.

This looks interesting, how does the lower receiver strap down if at all? It looks like it could slide around a bit more than I would like. It would be cool if someone made an even slightly smaller case like this, I don't need room for more mags.

I had the UTG Covert Homeland Security case for my old Mossberg and I really liked it. I picked up another one for my 15-22. Cheap at $29 and the pockets on it are good, with MOLLE straps inside the main compartment and some good AR mag carriers inside the smaller compartment. It also has a shoulder strap on the back side.

Pelican makes some good hard cases. I've seen them carry weapons under circumstances that people only imagine in their nightmares. I've seen them dropped thousands of feet when the chute failed, and seen them pulled from being submerged in over 50 feet of water. Never have I ever seen a weapon that was damaged emerge from one of these cases.

However, having shipped myself in the past, many different weapons to many parts of the world and into many different circumstances and environments via many different delivery methods, I found that its not always the brand name that you need.

If you want a good, durable, hard case, look for some of the Boyt Tacticals H-Series. They are just as durable for the range shooter, protect the weapon just as well as the pelican's for the average shooter, and are half the price of the pelicans.

If your into a more demanding requirement like frequent shipment via military transport and air drops and things like that, or a hard core mobile tactical use where you air transport all the time then go with the Pelican, but for everything else go to the Boyt Tacticals H-Series for a hard case.

That's a sharp case, Dave!

I went with the pelican storm case for my "real" "assault" rifles. It is heavy but is has wheels which makes it very easy to transport. Plus, it holds a pair of rifles and a "roscoe." So, the cost isn't bad when you consider what it holds and how well it is made.

I just use a SOTECH go sling bag with a M4 insert work mat for range days

I keep the Pelican for airline travels

has double pockets on each side for tools, gloves, optics
then double pouches for AMMO and hold up to 5 mags

I ordered a Ncstar soft case from amazon 40" last night for $19.00 plus free shipping. It has 5 mag pouches.;)

I have their longer version with the pistol/mag pockets in a second flap. I keep a full frame 1911 in there with 4 spare 25 rounders. The 15-22 goes in the main flap with a bipod grip, PA M4 and 3X magnifier attached. I also velcro in a 3-9x scope and quick release mounts. Plenty of room and I like the fact that has backpack straps.

Here's mine:

$17 before shipping. They also have a version with more pockets too. Have had it for 2 months or so and it's held up well, I have no problems with it. I don't own a safe so this is where it sits in a lot. I think you might be able to fit two 15-22 mags in there? Weird that I haven't tried that haha
Thank you for posting that one so I didn't have to. :D

I've had that one for a couple years and it does great for the local trips (obviously not an airline case). I've been very happy with it and you can't go wrong at $17.

Look at GunCruzer online. I just received my 5 gun case, it's amazing. The GunCruzer case is a PELICAN with their touches to it. If you have some expensive firearms, they deserve an expensive almost indestructible case to house them in their transportation.
