Has anyone else here tried Windows 7 yet?

I am running Windows XP, using FireFox, AVG, and Zone Alarm. I am through buying new hardware every time Bill Gates and Company decides to put a different label on a "New" Windows operating system. My XP works just fine thank you, and if I want to buy new hardware I'll buy a new Mac next time. There are all ready "Bugs" being reported on the Internet concerning Windows 7, so standby for the constant Windows Updates coming out of Microsoft.

I have windows xp.
It's very slow in shutting down.
Any way to speed it up?

I have Windows XP.....It was slow shutting down.

I increased the ram from 250,000 to (1 gig) 1,000,000

Solved my problem....I bought a gig of ram for $32.00

I'll move my Vista machine to Win7, the XP machines not

Not quite sure why I have a four-computer network that is used only by me, but I do. Three of them (two boxes and one laptop) are running XP and one laptop is running Vista.

I'm going to leave the XP machines alone. I may upgrade to Win7 on the Vista machine because I understand the OS footprint is smaller. Kind of a smallish disk by contemporary laptop standards, so anything I can do to reduce demands for resources is good. Also one of my daughters is upgrading to Win7 from Vista, and she's going to call me periodically to rant about her computer and ask me how to fix what's wrong with it. I guess I need to get the OS she's using on at least one machine so I can understand the questions she will ask.

I never really tried out the further reaches of Vista's claimed abilities, so I never had any complaints about it.

I've done some reading about switching to Windows 7 from Vista. From what I gather, if your machine DOES NOT have enough RAM to properly run Vista, you will have the same type of problems w/Windows 7.

If you DO have sufficient RAM so that Vista is running well on your machine, you will not see enough of an improvement to justify the cost in money/time/effort of going to Windows 7. It just isn't that much better.

I'm puzzled by the Windows 7 commercials where the guy talks about how he can hear music from this PC and print to thus and such printer, etc., etc. That's funny, I've been doing that stuff in my apartment since I got Windows 98SE. It's called a "network". After I set up a Linux server running Samba as a Windows domain controller years ago, I've been doing it better than the guy in the commercial.

How about, "With this new 2010 Ford Focus, I can just put a key in this slot, turn it and all I have to do is move this lever to 'D', push down on this thing with my foot and the car goes forward!"

Jack Flash:

Thank you for the info. We have Vista on the home computer (a new machine) and I was contemplating switching to W7. Nothing wrong (so far) with Vista but I was thinking W7 would save some disk space and be more efficient. Does not sound like the cost is justified since we are not running into any difficulties to date.

There is nothing new under the Microsoft sun. Enjoyed your comment about the Focus. I imagined Gomer Pyle reading the sentence aloud and ending with, Shazam!
