WV became open carry a few years ago. I do see it occasionally, but as others, most often at a local WalMart. (Why there? Good question.) The most memorable was a couple, sporting his'n'hers Colt Commanders in tight fabric holsters over their right hips. His had a set of Molon Labe grips. Hers a stylized American flag. All I could think was "Glad I left my Mdl.60 in the center console..."

I see it occasionally in Northern NV. Most of the people doing it are CA transplants. Most of the people offended by it are CA transplants. It doesn't fit my own personal self defense strategy. The only thing that bothers me about it is that the majority of people who OC are using the cheapest, least secure holsters. Please consider a good quality retention holster if you plan to OC.

I've not only seen it from time to time, I've done it myself from time to time. Usually just to pop into a 7-11, to pump gas, or something like that, where I don't want to bother to put on my cover. I've never had so much as a second glance as far as I could tell. Perfectly legal here. It's been years ago, but I recall standing in line at a Hardee's one morning, open carrying, with two Richmond Police officers behind me. Neither said anything to me.

I've never bothered anyone I've seen either. My wife and I have a standing joke though... "OMG...He's got a Gu..gu..gu..GUN!"

Me, and a buddy, were behind his house, shooting his pellet rifle. after we finished we moved to the front porch and was enjoying a beverage of choice with the pellet rifle leaning against the wall. a little later the local police chief stopped by and asked us to put the pellet rifle up because it disturbed the sheep driving by, we both got a good laugh out of that, but put the rifle up

Interesting, CajunBass. One of the very rare times I saw someone open carry was in Ukrop's at Cogbill and Hopkins Rd. Nicely dressed man, in business casual, with a gun on his hip. I checked at the time that it was perfectly legal.

How rare was it? It was 40 years ago, and I still remember it.

Never here yet. Was at Wally World yesterday, and a very popular Falls Park downtown this afternoon, people watching. Nothing visible.

During our time in SC (Midlands) we would often take day trips to the upstate and loved hanging out by Falls Park. Whether for events or just to relax, it is a beautiful area.

And getting back on track lol, only once so far have I seen open carry up here and that was in a WM.

See it from time to time. It's not for me, but if that's what floats your boat, rock on. What I've run into, around here at least, seems like the OC advocates all have an attitude. Anyone looks cross-eyed at them, they wanna get loud.

I've seen it several times. Once was at a Mickey D's. I was there with some group and our kids and several people hustled over to me to tell me there was a guy carrying a gun. I told everyone it was legal and I looked around and saw a Wilfred Brimley lookalike grandad there with the grandkids & grandma.

Not my thing. One of the things I bring in in CCW classes is that if you pocket carry your spare ammo, make it the only thing in that pocket. Best case scenario: you don't need to be sorting change out of your ammo in front of some terrified cashier.

I'm a ninja in this regard. The only time someone would ever know if I was carrying is #1 I tell them or #2 I have to shoot someone. Thankfully #2 has not occurred and I hope it never will.
Perfect example-I bet none of you reading this can tell whether or not I'm currently carrying.

As they should. Doing what is traditional and legal. The problem is the cross-eyed, not the carrier.

Maybe it is because they are tired of the smart mouth or snide comments made by gun owners who are scared of or opposed to guns being carried or who ignorantly think concealed carry is safer than open carry or who probably don’t even carry at all.

It is a new month so it must be time for another bash Open Carry topic. So for the “giving up my tactical advantage” members answer these questions;

How often do you practice clearing your covering garment(s) and drawing from your holster (if you use one)?

How often do you practice clearing your covering garment(s), drawing from your holster (if you use one) and firing LIVE ammunition?

“Pocket Carry”’seems to be a common fad nowdays. So how often do you practice drawing from your pocket?

How often do you practice drawing from your pocket and firing LIVE ammunition?

Do you have a shooting range that allows drawing and dry firing your gun?

Do you have a shooting range that allows drawing and firing LIVE ammunition from concealed carry position?

What are these “tactics” you speak of when you use the term “tactical advantage”?

Why is how I carry my gun upsets you and causes you so much concern?

Next months topic; Carry Rotation.

How many different guns do you carry during warm and weather?
