This, right here is one of the primary reasons I do not open carry. If I'm sitting in a restaurant with my wife I don't want some random stranger walking up to me and engaging me in conversation.

There is a member here who has stated on a couple of occasions that that if he notices somebody out and about open carrying or wearing the Tactical tuxedo he will make a point of seeking them out and giving them a ration for it. I don't need that kind of drama in my life.

Sounds like he's looking to take a good whooping .

Tombstone City Ordinance Number 9 Section 1
April 18 1881

1. It is hereby declared unlawful for any person to carry deadly weapons, concealed or otherwise (except the same be carried openly in sight, and in the hand) within the limits of the City of Tombstone.

Apparently this didn't ban carrying weapons in town but the only legal way to carry them was in your hand openly.

The plot for many movie and tv westerns in the 60's and 70's.

Yep, open carry on an empty chamber

Had a 68 year old man stop at my house to look at a boat that I have for sale. I was expecting him and he called to tell me he was running late for his appointed time. Once he arrived he looked over the boat and asking all the question he made an offer that I refused and said he'd give more thought to the boat and proceeded to leave. All the while his Glock was shining in open carry.

I apologized for being curious and asked him what he was carrying. Showing good muzzle discipline he immediately unholstered his gun dropped the mag racked and locked the slide back and showed me that the chamber was empty, that's right empty. and handed me the gun to look at. And proceeded to tell me how dangerous the ammo in the mag was. Something about 2 million fps or thereabouts. He was a nice man regardless.

Open carry...your choice

As far as I can recall, I've only seen two people open carrying. One was a woman -- in a Waffle House......

I've only seen it twice that I recall. Once in California, there was a little guy..5'5" or less at a filling station. He had a Ruger Old Army stuffed in his pants...appendix carry, with obvious attitude! I found another gas station. The other fellow was in my local grocery store. I asked him what he had, he told me and offered to let me handle it. I declined, and we went about our business.
My personal feeling is if I need it, no matter where I am, I want it to be a big surprise for any assailant.

Seen quite a few hi-points in nylon holsters, half the time they sitting almost at the small of the back. One time at Golden Corral, the guy had a .25 auto in a ballistic nylon holster hanging down from the belt buckle. Few times at Goodwill store I've seen a guy with a Ruger P89 in a nylon holster.

Went once to one of those carry all stores that have a little bit of everything, sort of like a pawn shop that only buys stuff, guy had tons of 9mm brass cased Remington Military ammo for 12 bucks a box, he had on his hip a S&W 19 2", after I expressed interest in it, he took it out, unloaded it and handed it to me, thing was grungy as all get out, months of caked up oils, and when I looked down the barrel, there was no light, seems it had a few months of lint. LOL, I told him if he tried shooting it he'd prob blow his hand off, he ended up giving me the gun for a few days so that I could clean it proper and ended up getting 4 boxes of 9mm for what amounted to about 3 hours of cleaning. Had to break it down to it's base pieces, but now it actually looks like a factory new pistol, AND it works.

Here's your answer. If the thug is in the way of me or mine coming home safely, I charge the thug, off hand out, while drawing, concealed or not, crack him in the chest or face, and fire two rounds at the biggest part of him that I can see. If he/she continues to resist, I continue to fire. If the thug fires back, I struggle through and continue the fight until one of us can't go on . . .

What do you do . . . ?

Stupid question . . .

Wait...What??

I'm sorry, I must be missing something...

But, if you believe that, let me pose a question:

You're walking down the street, and from nowhere appear two thugs. One points his gun at you and tells you they're going to take your gun.

Question: What's your next move?

If you choose not to answer, it's okay. I've been asking this question for years and have never gotten an answer.

You know, for somebody who stated that they have no interest in the opinion of a retired career security guard you sure do seem to seek out my opinion quite a bit.

I'm not sure I ever typed it exactly like that. I may have dismissed your opinion ad hominem on occasion, but I like reading e'erybody's opinions, no matter how wrong they are . . .

I'll bet there are some mall patrons in Indiana who are glad someone chose to ignore those signs...

You would be correct. There’s lots of us happy somebody disobeyed the signage. And you might be surprised how many people do the same thing everyday in this state.

How many people have you seen carrying concealed?

I live in Illinois across from Missouri. Around the 4th, the fireworks stands in MO stay open 24 hours. They are usually set-up in the river bottoms off the main road. I went into one in the wee hours and the owner was open carrying. It seemed very appropriate and it made me feel safer, even though I was carrying (concealed) too.

I live in PA, an OC state. I see it maybe twice a year. One time my eyes were drawn to a guy pumping gas with a very large Glock in a thigh rig. His license plate read OPN CRRY.

A few years ago, I was walking into a Home Depot. Young man, maybe 24 walking in with a cocked and locked stainless 1911 and a dual magazine pouch. He was accompanied by what I assumed to be his mother. She was also his care giver because this young man was clearly mentally challenged. The mother went to the service desk to return something and he ran over to the riding mowers and played on them while making vroom vroom noises. I kid you not. I posted about it on another forum and expressed my opinion on mentally challenged people carrying weapons, and I was deluged with “it’s his right!”

My kids won’t enjoy gun ownership like I have. Almost doubt I’ll be able to leave my guns to them at this rate. We are our own worst enemy.

Leaving Walmart parking lot yesterday, I saw a man and his wife heading to the store. He had a pistol on his hip. He had a tee shirt tucked BEHIND it (could have covered it).

I pulled up beside him and said, "Thank you. I wish I had the guts to do it."

He said, "As long as it's legal, I'm doin' it."

Do y'all see people open carrying?

Instead, be grateful you DON'T have the guts to do it.

OC is purty common in my neck of the woods....

Not a big deal, most folks mind their own business.

I would not ever berate anyone for their OC nor CC methods....

It takes all my waking hours to tend to my own affairs,
I don't have the time nor inclination to mind what others do.

**I don't always open carry, since I've retired from being a state detective.

But, when I do, I sport something appropriate.

EDC kinda rig,

Sunday's and special occasions kinda deal.
