As for me. I have been a member of the NRA for longer than I can remember. I feel that if you own a gun and support the 2nd. amendment you should be a member. I also feel that if you don't(join the NRA) you are letting other people carry your water for you. JMHO

I recently joined the NRA when all this started. I had been wanting to join but never had the time or money. I agree with you thought if you own guns and support your second amendment its a must.

I do some times here people talk bad about the NRA with certain decisions. I look at it this way maybe they did the best they could. Maybe they got everything they could at those times. I here people bad mouth Smith and Wesson and Ruger for adding the locks to there guns. I here people call them sale outs. I also heard congress passed legislation banning people from suing them if they where hurt with there product. That to me is a fair trade off special since most likely the entire gun industry would be bankrupt from lawsuits by now if it was not passed.

The NRA is US. In the millions - not nearly enough, but that should start to tell anyone with half a brain cell that cares to use it that it is not a monolithic one-thought controlled organization. Just a few short years ago there was a lot of internal infighting over control and degrees of ideology.

So there is not one single issue, one single decision, one press release, or one speech that is going to please everyone. Yeah, we've got some leftist members who act like embarrassed apologists and we have some on the right I would hesitate to associate with - just like any other organization with millions of members.

I do want to reach out and 'touch' some of these whiners that are supposedly gun owners who show up here and other places and talk trash about the NRA . . . like they know so much better or could do any better.

It's said to death, but bears repeating and realizing - the NRA may not perfect but it is the most effective organization out there defending gun rights and is as much or more responsible for any liberties we enjoy in the sport today against a constant onslaught from our enemies since the 1960's.

If you're a gun owner and have no use for the NRA - I have no use for you. Please do me the courtesy of not responding to my ads when I buy or sell here since I will not knowingly deal with such.

Well, you asked . . .

I've been a life member for eons-well, since 1984 anyway, and my wife is a life member, and we plan on leaving almost our entire estate to the NRA, as we have no children, so I guess I approve of them. That being said, I sometimes do not like their seeming timidity on issues, and the fact that they play the political game too clever by half at times, but the bottom line is that they are without doubt the 800 pound gorilla in the pro gun lobby arena. I give to the other pro gun organizations such as GOA and CCRKBA, but they do not have the clout that the NRA does.

If it wasn't for the NRA and the sea change made to the organization by Harlon Carter in the early 70's, we would be in the same boat as the Aussies and Canucks right now.

Lets face facts,

There are lots of pro gun organizations, but only one is mentioned by the media, and 'our leader', and that is the NRA. Why? Because we have the numbers.

Join now if you are not a member, and perhaps we all can become part of the solution rather than part of the problem.:)

I'm still waiting for my membership stuff to come in. There's a show down here in Feburary that I might be interested in going to. (BTW- can anyone give me detail about what this show is going to have?)

NRA is the reason Obama blinked yesterday. NRA is the reason 20 US Senators from the president's own party who are up for election in 2014 have made it plain to him that they will not walk the plank for him on this issue. NRA is the reason Harry Reid basically told him that "it just ain't gonna fly."

They are a single-issue pressure group with very deep pockets that is willing to ruthlessly attack politicians who are at odds with the pro-gun agenda.

I like the organization.;)

I've been a member off and on since I was a teen. The last few years I let it lapse. I renewed a little while back.

As others have said, I don't always agree with the way they handle things--I thought for one think that LaPierre didn't use the opportunity he had recently to make good points by talking real numbers about how little rifles are used in crimes, for example.

Of course I don't agree 100% with most any organization or person for that matter.

Lee (our fearless leader) said something in a recent post, to the effect that if you didn't like LaPierre's speech, send money so they can hire better writers and consultants. Lee has a way of distilling things sometimes.

I do think they're gotten back on track and Keene has been doing a fine job in the interviews I've heard lately.

And as others have said, they are the ones doing most to protect our rights, and to limit the reach of the feds with respect to fiddling with the constitution. Redlevel put it very well in his post.

If you haven't joined yet, you should.
