How do you store your ammo?

Most is in the bottoms of my safes. The exceptions are bulk boxes of 12 ga. 7-1/2 clay shells, .556 and some handgun stuff. They are in a couple of other spots around the house.

AMMO STORAGE

In my locked Man cave (heat & a/c), NOT in a basement. Ammo is in cardboard factory boxes reinforced with clear moving tape, so they last, bought or scrounged from the range with a few plastic midway types. ALL reloaded ammo has a reloader's label with all the info. These are then put into 2 large wooden shelved cabinets built into dead end of a large double closet with a coffee can full of pill bottle desicants on each shelf, and each door has a clasp key lock. As long as the a/c is working I'm not worried. Yes someone with a pry bar could get in there fairly easy, but it's just to keep kids & honest people out. Guns are another story.

Before I got a "real" safe I kept firearms in one of those metal cabinets. I added shelfs to the inside and keep a different caliber on each shelf. Unfortunately I ran out of space so now it kind of overflows into other cabinets in the basement.

Handloads in ammo cans.
Factory ammo in original packaging, stacked on a pallet, covered with a tarp in a dry basement.

*not saying whether it is my basement...HAHA! :D

I recently got some of these:

AmmoCanMagnets.Com

They sort of neaten things up; plus I don't have to get down to read the small typed labels when I'm looking for something.

But if the grandson starts switching them around, I'm in trouble.

I use the original boxes for shot shells and keep pistol and rifle ammo in plastic ammo boxes. I don't think it really matters where they're kept. This last dove season, I shot some 45 year old paper shells that were less than nice and they all shot like new.

I picked up some what I call dry boxes or plastic ammo style containers. All ammo is in original boxes except for handgun reloads then it's the plastic boxes for those.

Do you use a cabinet? A second safe? Some kind of bunker? Just laying around on the ground?

I'm considering altering my storage method so, I'm looking for ideas.

I bought two of those wooden widlife boxes that Academy and WM sell. I had a hasp added since the ones from Academy dont have them) added anice padlock. Since one box is stuffed--it would take Arnold Schwarzenegger to take it. the other is well on its way to being stuffed too. Then I guess? ill have to buy another box. :D

anyway, these are stored in a closet.

Other than what's in the SHTF weapons, pre-loaded magazines, and stripper clips, it's all in the basement in factory boxes. Got a couple mil ammo cans with .40 S&W and .45 ACP I got from Georgia Arms down there too.

Long term storage: vacuum sealed and stored in a dry box with desiccant.

Short term storage: boxes on a shelf.

Both are in my gun room... A reenforced window-less room in the basement.

Daughter's former boyfriend did installs for kitchen cabinets.
He got me a slightly used full set of cabinets & lagged 'em to the studs over my workbenches. Add a couple of hasps & padlocks & voila, boo-coo semi-secure storage.

I store mine in both metal and plastic 30 & 50 cal sealed ammo cans. All those are in locked safes, a bunch of my reloads are in MTM 100 round plastic cases. The area is not temperature controlled, I have stored my ammo like this for over 25 years with no problems
