How do you store your ammo?

great thread with lots of good ideas, thoughts & solutions...

thanks guys!

I've got an old metal filing cabinet I hope to use for some boxed ammo & misc items like holsters & other gear.

Combination of metal military cans and plastic versions of same. I keep all ammo segregated by caliber in original boxes/packages. Handgun reloads are kept in MTM 50/100 round containers.

Non children household, so ammo containers are kept in extra bedroom closets. Heated/AC as required here in Indiana.

MTM utility dry box. Divided storage in the lid, tote tray and stackable. Plastic but strong enough to stand on. O-ring, reasonable price. I stuff what I can in them with some dried rice scotch taped in toilet paper for a desiccant.

Thanks for all the ideas. MOONDAWG, I think you have me beat.

I have much of what I have in ammo cans, but I need more. I'm thinking of investing in a metal cabinet.

In a spare closet inside my house heated and air conditioned year round.

In my use closet. Have to be inside in the air conditioning with the high garage temps in AZ in summer.

In original packaging, put inside large plastic storage boxes from Target. (Yes, you want to preposition them. Once they are full you don't want to have to move them around. I can get in and get what I want without moving them.) Then I throw into each one all those little desiccant packs that come in vitamin bottles. Also covered inside the boxes with Kraft paper. So not obvious at a glance what it contains if I ever get burglarized.

I store mine is an old 4 drawer metal file cabinet in the garage. It's old, probably from WWII era, is made of thick metal and has a reasonably strong lock. And I keep it locked.

Here, there, and everywhere. Seriously, most is in the safe. I keep a few rounds scattered around the house and in the car. Still have a couple of shipping boxes that I haven't unpacked yet. Been sick, and it's been cold here lately.

Have had a couple of folks tell me I shouldn't store ammo in the safe with firearms. Nobody ever gave me a real solid reason why, though.

Temperature and humidity controlled heavy duty safe.

Montana has it-- I picked up an old floor safe from a business that closed down. This thing is WWII vintage -- after I thinned out the herd some years back it had the room and since buying ammo was getting hard to find a few years back I just started putting everything in there, on one side. safe & dry-- and away from any unwanted eyes that might be stupid enough to break in. JMHO :)
