How good is smith and wesson warranty/service really?

I have a mp40 pro with a 5" storm lake conversion barrel installed. So I took it to the rangetoday and shot about 150 rounds through it. Unfortunately the case extractor is sized for 40sw and not 9mm. Had a couple stove pipes and failure to eject. When I got home I noticed the extractor had a small chip in it... I don't know if my vision is bad or if smith and wesson extractors are brittle . Will S&W cover repairs? How much do they cost? If I knew that a few failure to eject would actually break a less than 4 month old gun I would of been a little more picky with my purchase .

You modify a pistol to a different caliber and it breaks. You're p***ed because you feel that the pistol should not have broken. You expect S&W to fix for free the pistol that you modified and will probably bad mouth S&W all over the Internet if they don't.

The extractors are the same on the M&P pistols. M&P parts suppliers show the extractor they sell for all M&P pistols. Exception being the M&P 22.

Put back the 40 barrel in the gun and send it back to them or have a local gunsmith fix it for you. If you send it back to S&W you may wait forever for the return some are saying............Someone said that the case extractors are the same in the 40 or 9mm.

anyone I have known personally that has ever dealt with s&w has had nothing but good to say about them...others on here...seem to not have such good results for some reason. I think people expect companies to go above and beyond what their warranties state...and some companies do. but if it were me...I would just buy the $20 dollar extractor and be done with it...why deal with warranty parts over such a cheap issue...?

sent a couple of new smiths for repairs and the send back IMMEDIATELY....mine were minor but smith was very responsive and wasted no time checking and returning mine...

Warranty issues have a quick turn around. I can't tell you about making the conversion and switching it back, though. That's an ethical dilemma.

I did buy the Apex extractor for around 35$ haven't got the time to put it in. I guess the real question is. Can extractors handle a couple stove pipes or failure to feed ? Considering my mp has less than 1000 rounds through it. Thanks for the info guys.

I sent my new Shield to S&W because the trigger was really heavy. I had it back in less than 2 weeks and the trigger was fantastic. That saved me from investing in a aftermarket apex trigger kit and kept everything factory. I have used their warranty services a few times over the years and it has always been great to deal with them.
