Ivoted I don't carry an extra. However at times depending on the area of town and how I feel at that particular time I will put an extra Mag. in my pocket, this is especially true for my P6 which is only 8 shots.

Just the one in the gun....unless the news that morning shows mobs of people stopping traffic or coming up my block with F the police signs.

Two J-Frames Two or Three Speed Strips. In the car or house is always extra Speed Loaders near by.

I checked off on two magazines, but that's only when I'm carrying an 8-round, single stack P239 or P225. Same goes when carrying my 1911. I always carry a quick strip with my J frame 642, or my 66 snubby on our property. If I thought I was going to an armed confrontation, however, I'd carry my M11-A1 with at least two spare magazines--for long gun backup and close quarters defense--like I did when I was in LE.

I had a type 3 malfunction (double feed) at Fed requals (which are timed).
This issue happened after only 3 or 4 rounds fired and could only be resolved by having another mag.
I carry 1 extra mag primarily for that reason. My pistol is 8+1.
HST 124gr. 9mm

Be SAFE and Shoot Often!

A few years ago I used to carry 6 rounds and one speed strip of .38 special in my model 10 and think I was golden.

Now times and responsibilities have changed, one 17 round mag in the pistol and two in the pocket carried with Neomag holders.

Greetings!

In light of the current state of civil stability, for those of you that carry a semi-auto, how many magazines do you typically carry?

Thanks for participating in this survey. While I live in a state that mandates neutered magazines (10 rounds max), I am looking to get a feel for what my fellow forum members feel comfortable with.

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Bodyguard .380 I carry one extra mag with 6 in a Recluse pocket holster. If 13 mouse gun rounds can't get me out of a close quarter, last ditch, life or death, self defense situation, well the situation is F U B A R. My .38 BG I carry two 5 round speed strips in a pouch that I can throw in a pocket, my backpack or my car. the BG .38 is holstered in a Mika pocket holster or a Crossbreed Super Tuck IWB. Don't let 10 round magazine limits get in your head. Carry four ten round magazines if you feel the need. The important thing would be to familiarize yourself and be proficient with in battery reloads. Shoot eight or nine, strip mag, reload fresh 10. Don't wait for the slide to lock back (empty).

Well my main piece is a Brn HP with 13shot mags. I feel comfortable with 7 extra mags plus one in the gun. That’s 104 rods of 9mm at a fingers touch.
I go light on extra ammo for my back up, a m36 S&W 38sp. I only carry three speed loaders for it. Thanks only 20 rods. I do however wear a cartridge belt with 25 rds of 12g 00 buck. This is in case I can access my truck where I’ve got a 8 shot riot gun with lasers. Not to forget my EDC Survival Bowie, folding hunter and Swiss Army knife. If I get cornered I got a 3 pack of Ninja throwing stars in reserve. This I find sufficient for daily needs unless I will be in Bear Country where it will require me to carry a
large caliber stub nose revolver. Better safe than sorry.

I carry a Shield 9 with the eight round magazine. The seven round magazine in my weak side pocket.

I don’t carry a spare magazine with my glock. It’s got 14 rounds and I hit what I aim at :D:D:D

:D. all kidding aside if I need more than 14 rounds I’m probably in already over my head
At the height of corona scare in April I was carrying a spare mag as the odds of people getting stupid seemed increased. I wouldn’t let my wife go grocery shopping without me.

I do Carry a spare speed reload with my J frame 5 shot but as a clumsy lefty I got a better chance running away than reloading

With my LCP (6 rd) I carry two spare mags so total of 18 rounds. With my P10F I carry one spare (19 rd mags) for a total of 38 rounds. As a side convo, how many mags do you have for your each of your guns? Is there a thread for that topic already?

Typically I carry the gun and 1 extra mag....occasionally 2.
I get the "If I cant solve the problem with whats in the gun" mentality...but people seem to forget magazines fail at a much higher rate than guns....
If your mag fails it doesnt really matter if you are using a Glock and 33 round mag.....It will be useless without a reload.
Plus an extra mag doesnt weigh hardly anything.....Definitely prudent to have at least one reload.
In the past 43 years that I have carried, I have had one mag failure, with bullets falling out of the mag secondary to a broken base plate. Not to worry I had multiple spare mags, due to the reality that mags fail. Bear hunt six mags 2 identical rifles, zeroed, cleaned and function tested 2 days before arrival at bear camp. The rifles were in double Pelican cases, in a friends brand new suburban. We went to check zero and the first mag would not feed?? It worked perfectly 2 days before and did not sustain any type of damage. So If you are carrying an auto, you MUST carry at least one spare, does not matter if it is a 33 round Glock or 6 round Keltec, and depending on the make, model of the gun it may not fire without a mag,. May need one shot only, but bullets are difficult to use when lying on the floor of the truck. Be Safe,

It depends. If I'm carrying the Kahr .45, then 2 spare mags, in a High Noon Holsters "Double Take."

If it's the S&W 1911, then 3 spare mags since that's what my Andrews Monarch shoulder holster is able to carry.

I encourage all good guys to carry at least one reload. As I read on some forum "what are you going to do, wait for police with an empty gun?"

I don't think pockets are the best place to carry spare ammo....lint is one reason.
