I wandered into a local store today just to look around, not expecting to find anything. The store is a rather large retailer, sometimes they have good deals sometimes not. When I looked in the used gun case I see an old Model-64 with a standard profile (aka pencil/tapered) 4 inch barrel. The sales lady doesn't know much about it or it's history when I ask to see it.
It appears to have lead a life in law enforcement, lots of holster wear, grips are beat up, lots of scratches around the grips on the back strap and side plate where it would protrude from a holster, dirty etc. However, the function is nice and tight, heavy trigger pull yet smooth. It has that carried a lot, but fired little feel to it. Price tag is $349, no box or accessories. Sales girl asks me if I'd be interested in it if the price was a little better and asks the manager. Price is now $299.
So it followed me home. After I cleaned it up, is still has some scratches, the grips serial to the gun, D584XXX. I found some pitting under the grips and the side plate has been removed at some point based on looking at the screws. It might have been polished at some point, but I also added some elbow grease to rub out some of the smaller scratches. Now I'd like to restore the finish back to the original brushed satin finish.
How'd I do?
