Hypothetical: You are going into a gunfight - what handgun do you take - No reloads!

Five trusted performers are my choices. I'd trust any of them to perform:

Glock 23, with 13 +1
M&P9c, with 12 +1
Springfield XD9, with 15 +1
Springfield Lightweight champion [commander] 8 +1

Or I could cheat and bring a Para P16......17 +1 of .40cal goodness

My 2.5" Model 19 is my carry gun. It's as much gun as I feel I will ever need. But if I KNEW today was the day, I'd have my 6" 629 with me!

It's not the gun, It's the sights.

I would take my "old fart" gun. Ruger P-95 with Crimson Trace grips. (My only laser sighted gun) Don't need my bifocals. With 15+1 I feel well armed and I am ready for a night fight.

Of course day to day I ALWAYS carry a reload, and far more often than not a BUG. But, to play along I'd still feel fine with my everyday Commander. My efforts would be to try to turn it into a 'shooting' rather than a 'gunfight'.

But if I KNEW I wouldn't get a reload (and was dumb enough to go), then I'd bring a hi-cap .45 (probably the XD).

Not to derail the thread, but those rounds are not actually going to crack an engine block. That myth about the .357 probably dates back to Dick Tracy. An expanding bullet would actually work better if you're using that gun for personal defense against humans, unless you've urgent need to shoot through barriers and intermediate cover.

And on a seperate note, and I do hate being that guy, but it's been on here a lot lately. Clips go into your M1 Garand or feed your Mauser. Magazines feed your pistol. Unless someone has Han Solo's C96, their ammunition supply won't be in clips.

Better tell that to the owner of the Jeep Renegade with a broken block. A homeowner shot it as it was doing landscaping work in the middle of the night. The Jeep continued to the road and shut down. The teen driving it began crying and asking the homeowner not to call his parents.

Most likely my normal carry gun.HK USP compact .357 sig.My colt lightweight commander in .38 super I enloy shooting the most but favor the capacity of the HK.
Now I could bring the FN 5.7 for 20+1 but that would be silly.

That is easy, I would take whatever sidearm that would get me to my long gun the fastest.

I carry my SW1911Sc commander loaded with either Ranger-T or HST everyday with a spare mag and surefire flash light so thats what I'll have in a suprise gunfight. If for whatever reason I knew I had to be in a gun fight in advance I would grab the 870 or AKM.

I ask myself this question every morning when I leave the house. I prepare as if I AM going to a gunfight. Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.

That usually means a G31 .357 SIG, a G20 10mm, or an L-Comp .357 Magnum.

No offense intended, but after two tours in Vietnam and 24 years as a cop I have a little trouble with the concept of one knowing that one will be in a gunfight and taking only a handgun!

A handgun might be the weapon of choice under certain circumstances, such as clearing tunnels, narrow hallways in buildings, etc. But for everything else shotguns, rifles, mortars, artillery, and air strikes suit me far better!

Quite frankly, if I knew that I was going to be in a gunfight on any given day I would do my best to avoid anyplace I would ordinarily be on that day. A fight avoided is better than a fight won, when that option exists.

Handguns are useful as a last resort, which pretty well describes the majority of personal defense cases and most law enforcement needs.
