I guess these dang things are good for us but I can't say that I love 'em a whole lot. What I'm talkin' about is that you don't always know, when you first wake up in the morning, what you are going to be doing that day, even if you thought you had it all planned out.

I thought I was gonna spend the afternoon going out to the woodlands and getting my new hearing aids tweaked and visiting with all those cute young audio techs. It's a very pleasant experience and the hearing aids are great but just need some very minor tweakin'.

I experienced a most unpleasant situation at breakfast (I'll spare you the gory details) and Miss Pam quite vigorously insisted that I call our gastroenterologist and get in ASAP. I called and they were kind enough to work me in at 1:00PM. After much Q&A and a quick check back at my history with that office I wound up with an appointment for one week from today to get scoped both high and low.

I'm sitting here looking with complete loathing at my bowel prep kit. Actully I'm a year over due for this but I don't like for it to come up on me all of a sudden like this. I need a little time to let it eat on me before I can accept it with grace.

I've already said good bye to caffeine and alcohol for a while. Probably a LONG while this time. They found some ulcers and polyps 4 years ago and took me off all my happy drinks then but I kinda slid back in to 'em over time. Thought I was gettin' away with it.

I do like all the nurses there though. And the anesthesia they use there is really good! I hope I get the same nurse I had last time that put the IV in me. I asked her to marry me at one point. She declined but I believe it was because Miss Pam was standing right there looking at the love-struck expression on my face. If I can catch her alone this time I'll betcha she says yes.

Anyway I expect to be out of commission for a day or two but I WILL be back asap. In the mean time I'm just gonna sit here and pout! :(

Hang in there & here's prayers for good results, both high & low!:D

Good Health and best of Luck to you sir. I'm 53 and am
overdue for my first procedure. I keep putting it off because
of the (beforehand process). I'll let them scope me soon
but not looking forward to it at all.

Chuck

Best of luck, Jack. That lower procedure is one you won't catch me putting off--I've got a family history I don't want to contribute to.

I've had both ends scoped separately and one time together. After giving me the Versid and just before they started I told the Doc if I woke up with the taste of poop in my mouth I was going to kick his butt! It's a lot more unpleasant than painful but it really does need to be done. Good luck to you and I pray they find you all pink and healthy.

Colonoscopy is not the most fun way to spend a day but it is a procedure that can literally save your life. The prep process is by far the worst part of the whole procedure but with some Desitin baby ointment and some Tucks wipes you can get through it quite comfortably. I have been through five colonoscopies over the past 10 years because of family history and polyps that have been removed. I have also lost a couple of friends and one family member to colon cancer and it is not a quick and painless way to die. For all of you who have been avoiding having this procedure make that appointment and get it done... The life you save may be your own...!!!

I wish I hadn't read this...I've put mine to the side only because I've had other issues (shoulder) that I needed to have looked at.
Either way, both aren't high on my list but very necessary to get done. Guess I'll make the call tomorrow. :(

There was a string a few weeks ago in which a couple members mentioned that either they or a relative had delayed having this procedure for a variety of reasons (the prep is one, and a biggie.) That delay meant that serious problems were left undiscovered to a stage where there is no coming. Given what you describe about what was found before, your wife ought to have kicked your backside every day once you were due for a follow up until you actually did it. Most of the problems that can be found by a 'scope can be found early enough to address if you take the necessary steps to actually have the scope. Revisit your thinking, all of you who delay.

The prep is the worst part by far. A friend of mine had one a couple of weeks ago and he opted for no sedation. Brave or foolhardy, I'm still not sure.

The procedure itself is nothing and as others have noted can be a life saver.

Good luck.

Complicated subject

If you have handled (prepared) uncooked chicken in the last couple of days it could be Salmonella or Campylobacter.

I had mine this past Monday, the prep was one day of fasting and two bottles of poop juice. the procedure was ok I guess don't remember it. My wife told me they removed 4 polyps and I need to eat more broccoli and fiber. I have a family history of colon cancer. I go back in 3 years.

Had stomach problems off and on for a few weeks last winter so I got nervous and had the upper and lower procedures done and was very happy and relieved with a final hiatal hernia diagnosis. Eating lighter and drinking less coffee and alcohol and taking one antacid before dinner time was all I needed. Hope your fix is as simple as mine was and that cleanout procedure really has improved over the years. Good luck!

The good news is that if you have both procedures at the same time it is more economical because, after they complete the lower one, they use the same tube for the upper.

Just kidding! And prayers that they won't find anything at all to worry about.

Bob
