I KNOW WE LIVE IN A WORLD OF PLASTIC AND ELECTRONICS, BUT - NO CASH??

I always have a hundred or two or three tucked away in my wallet. The ready cash varies between $20 and $200 depending on how long since I pulled out cash. I made sure Mrs always has a couple hundreds tucked away as well. We use cards a lot, but I still like having cash.

But that does not work for all members of society. Many people are strictly cash and carry.

They aren't going to give you a choice, specifically because they want to eliminate cash and carry. That tire shop that sold OP a new tire probably didn't pay tax on that cash transaction, even if they added tax to the final bill. Waitresses taking cash tips, tradesmen doing side jobs, people selling junk on Etsy or eBay; the gov't wants to stop all that. The pimps and drug dealers will still find a way but the gov't isn't actually threatened by that sort of "parallel economy".

Since my first real paycheck decades ago I've carried at least $300 with me every time I walked into a gun store or went to the range. In the 80's, being prepared landed me an Uzi 9mm complete in the box, an HK 91, a Weatherby .300 magnum Mk. V and many S&W pistols in addition to several Colt Pythons and Government models.

I still carry cash daily but the days of chance encounters and gun purchases are few and far between. On the local forums and at the local gun show, having cash readily available helped facilitate several major purchases (entire collections and/or 1000's of rounds of ammunition).

To me, cash talks the loudest. Long live the king!

Can still remember taping together topos to do drainage areas. You just can't see a big enough area on a computer screen to get the "big picture" And too many people depend on a program to calculate things without knowing how the program actually works.

I learned about surveys and land descriptions long before computer programs were designed for such things. I could take a deed and with hand tools draw the configuration of the legal description.

I went back to an old employer I left back in 2002 to teach some of the basics in legal descriptions of land. A computer program will show instantly that a property description won't close, but it takes the understanding of what goes into a legal description to figure out why it doesn't close.

My wife was pretty much a card only person until a couple years ago when she was in a town about 125 miles away and her card got locked because someone had made some rather large transactions using her card information in another state. No supper for her, a couple cheap snacks and just enough gas to get home. Now she has 2 cards and $300 in cash.

As stated by a few here, there will always be an underground economy and they want cash, not plastic! Yes, for the most part governments want a cashless society so they can get their taxes, but people have been bartering for 5000 years and it will never stop - especially at 2 am !!

I carry a small amount of cash, $40-$60. But really, the only time I use cash is to pay the fee at the gun range. It's usually Christmas cash. I think I still have some from Christmas 2021 that I haven't spent.

I always carry some hideout cash on me for just such emergencies. I do not carry a lot because of the ugly specter of civil asset forfeiture which is widely abused by those in authority in this country. Until that form of legalized theft is done away with quantities of cash carrying is an invitation to losing it without much chance of ever seeing it again.

I picked up 45 cents in change off the sidewalk the other day. That's the most cash I've carried on me in I don't know how long. I'm more likely to run into a place that won't take cash than I am one that won't take a credit card of some kind.

I threw it in the change jar when I got home.

If we are forced into a digital currency every penny you spend will be more closely monitored by the powers. Even worse than now. Don't think that is not true. Just before new years my next door neighbor was visited by 7 car loads of law enforcement including homeland security for the simple reason his credit card company reported him to homeland security because in their opinion he had purchased to many guns and to much ammo. I never noticed the quantity qualifier on the second amendment.
No rumor about this I saw it and talked to these "public servants" while engaged in this service.

The dollar is not going away. It buys too many politicians and foreign governments.

ATM=here i am rob me machine. Granted they have gotten better over the years, but i never used one.

And some dinosaur or “old school” guy flashing his large wad of cash or wallet full of cash when he pays for something.

How many guns and what kind in how short of time period?

What makes you so sure it was the credit card company that ratted him out? I hope you aren’t one of those that believes the FBI is totally destroying the Instant Background Checks that are called in.

I have a friend that buys guns from private sellers and pays cash for them so the Government doesn’t know he is a gun owner. Except he was a licensed armed security officer that was involved in two shootings and buys accessories, primers and gun powder using…

Yup the credit card.

The moral of your story is space out firearm purchases paid for by credit card over a longer period of time.

Well I have never used a ATM, hopefully will never need to go to one. Figure most times pocket cash, check or a CC (no debit card) will keep me going.

As for my wife she goes to a ATM so often that when she pules into the lot a big sign lights up saying welcome (her name) and enough fireworks go off like the finally of a large show.:D

I tried to withdraw some cash from my ATM. It denied my card. I went into the bank to see why, and they said it had been cancelled because it hadn't been used in two years. Got a new card and now make a small withdrawal about every six months.
