Know what you are agreeing to
Just joined the NRA this week due to the persuasive powers of the many good people on this Forum.
On the phone with them today to confirm my membership and I mentioned to the nice lady on the phone that I agreed with background checks.
Her answer was that they appreciated my input and that they agreed that there were certain people, like the insane and violent felons, who should not have guns.
I suspect that a universal background check will be passed with overwhelming support.
Never say yes until you know what you are agreeing to.
Is the background check law going to be one page or 2,000 pages. Will all congressmen get a chance to read it, or will it be another law introduced at the last minute, with a lot of pork.
Will This be another "we must pass the law to find out what is in it".
Will it end up including anything about lead bullets, endangered species, or electronically controlled guns.
Will anyone involved in this administration have any ownership of any newly required patents. (How did the airport scanner thing work?)
If the system "accidentally" fails is the consumer still permitted to buy, or must he wait for the government agency involved to figure it out when they get time.
I prefer rules whereas I am presumed to have the right to buy unless the government can prove otherwise. I burned out with the California Department of Motor Vehicles not posting the form I gave them when selling a vehicle. (The person I sold it to had dumped it along side the road without continuing the registration process). I was required to go to the police station and was told there would be a hearing. It all came to a stop when I told them I was going to go directly to my lawyer and sue the Department of motor vehicles, for not posting the form I gave them, on their computers, so the police could access it.
I feel sorry for the police secretary that was half asleep as she repeated what she often says. She got real alert when I used the words "I am going to sue Department of Motor Vehicles to make them do their job". (Within 2 hours the DMV called me and assured me their records had now been brought up to date and I was correct).
I also previously was applying for a truck drivers license when the DMV secretary told me my military DD214 was a copy of a copy and she needed to see the original. (No one is given the original) after driving ten miles I returned with the copy I had been given and ask them to make a copy and give it back to me. (I do not need another "all powerful" agency controlling honest peoples lives, having me stand in long lines, or in any way cause a two minute job to take all afternoon).
Most homicides in this country are done by gang members with unlicensed guns, or knives, or hammers, or whatever.
The New Town Sandy Hook School shooting was done by a mentally disturbed male who killed his mother to get total access to her guns. (He was not trying to buy his own).
This proposed law does not solve the situation they claimed it will solve.
