Agreed. And thank you.
They could. Now we've downgraded the argument from a loss of freedoms and path to tyranny to that of a waste of time and money. Being $16 trillion in debt... that may be the best argument of all.

Agreed, not good but VERY truthful. (And I'm Not a "Plant" as you surely are.)

Just joined the NRA this week due to the persuasive powers of the many good people on this Forum.
On the phone with them today to confirm my membership and I mentioned to the nice lady on the phone that I agreed with background checks.
Her answer was that they appreciated my input and that they agreed that there were certain people, like the insane and violent felons, who should not have guns.
I suspect that a universal background check will be passed with overwhelming support.
I bought my Model 66 from a Sgt. of a Detroit suburb PD and when he told me where
to meet him, an isolated industrial area, I told him what I would be driving.
He responded with, "I'll be the one in a po-leece car."![]()
Be very clear, it's spending a lot of money IN ORDER TO take away people's rights to no end. It's stupid AND evil. They could. Now we've downgraded the argument from a loss of freedoms and path to tyranny to that of a waste of time and money. Being $16 trillion in debt... that may be the best argument of all.
Hey did you hear that Colorado has a state run system. They used to brag about how quick it was. Now its out to weeks and the legislature just refused to appropriate more money, saying the burden should be on the buyer. But then there is now way for buyers to do that.
To be honest about it, it works well here. I made a purchase here in Denver just after Thanksgiving, it took 25 mins on a Saturday. Yes now its taking several days because of the panic. So you think more money should be thrown at it now? Hogwash.
Every idiot and there brother with a credit card is rushing out to buy an AR or hand gun now because they want it "grandfathered" and the think they won't be able to later..
Was at my local gun shop looking for ammo and some young girl was buying a hand gun for "HD and personal protection". Was insisting on getting a Ruger Redhawk. She'd never even fired a gun, fer chrissakes!!! Luckily my shops owner wouldn't sell her that, tried to convince her to go with something else. She said no, she'd just get it somewhere else.
I know she was probably buying for her convicted felon boyfriend that would never pass the check.

What is hogwash is the idea that we should ask the government permission to exercise a right they don't have the authority to regulate.
The Holy Bible's been a best selling book for generations. Should it be OK then that one must submit to an 8 day waiting period and manual background check before taking one home? After all, the September 11 attacks stemmed from religious extremism. No one "needs" a holy book right away.
And here , we come to the core reason why our nation is so divided.
There are people who believe others have the same rights they do to pursue happiness within the bounds of the US Constitution.
And there are others who believe they have the personal and collective right to demand justification for the decisions of others. Today , you have to justify buying a gun to the collective via a government background check. Tomorrow, you'll be asking permission to date a hot girl. How do I know youre responsible enough to have safe sex? I mean , you'll probably knock her up and generate another welfare case all of us have to pay for, so why not mandate a government background check and credit review as a condition of a recognized domestic relationship?
It starts with permits for pistols. That path ends in the Third Reich.
If I hold CCW permit, which I do, having been thoroughly checked out by the FBI and State, why should I have to pay for a background check every time I buy a gun or a box of ammo?

Were Jews German citizens? If you do a little research sir, I believe you might find the Third Reich's laws on German citizen's owning guns is quite different than what you might think.

I had a retired BATF agent who'd vanity published a book about his macho exploits, try the above scam on me. As I did above, I merely asked, "Were Jews German citizens?"So your point is what? Nazis were gun tolerant and you want America to be the same? Or, maybe, the Nazis knew better how to regulate firearms and the US should emulate?
This is becoming silly.

I support them, too. I suspect the majority of gun owners do, as well. members of this forum are not representaive of the gun owners in general, and certainly not the general public. I guarentee it passes. Only problem is how to enforce it. Say they pass it starting April 1, 2013. How would they know if I sold a gun without a check after April 1st, 2013? If the gun I sell was bought by me in a private sale, it's not even associated with me.
Maybe the NRA could play it smart and try to use the inevitable background check laws to their advantage. Pass a reciprocal permit program so law abiding citizens can legally carry state to state. Allow private sales, BUT require a bill of sale with the buyer's permit number. He's already passed the check to buy a gun. No overload of the NICS system, and the NRA doesn't come off as being so obstinate and hated by so many.
We can argue this all we want, but Newtown changed the game.
The ONLY way it can be enforced is with registration.I support them, too. Some people ARE thinking... they're just thinking of how to achieve an entirely DIFFERENT goal from the one YOU probably intend. You people aren't thinking clearly and rationally. I'm done with this nonsense.![]()
OMG!!!
You can't be serious!!
Do you realize what it would take to put such a program in place?! YOUR TAX DOLLARS!!
Think the background check will include mental evaluations in
one form or another? So now we have invasion of privacy and another hoop to jump through!!

it will cost NOTHING. Say you have a North Carolina permit. You want to visit a friend in NJ. You take your gun. A friend decides he wants to buy it while you are there. You write up a bill of sale, include his permit number and state on it, and he leaves with the gun. if it ever turns up at a crime scene, and the cops come calling, you show them the bill of sale and you are covered.
My tax dollars go to a lot worse things then this. I'm OK with it.
A "permit" for WHAT???it will cost NOTHING. Say you have a North Carolina permit.
A "permit" for WHAT???
In Ohio, the ONLY gun related "permit" or "license" is the Ohio Concealed Handgun License, necessary ONLY to carry a concealed handgun or a loaded handgun in a vehicle.
Are you now advocating "permits" for firearms ownership?
Your dreaming buddy. Nice dream but that's all it is. THEY will never go along with it!!
