If limited to 10 rounds, what do you carry?

I'd carry the same as I've carried for the last six years, my 10+1 M&P 40c. I've converted it to .357 SIG using a Storm Lake barrel, and have shot 2,500 rounds since with zero problems. It's accurate, reliable, powerful, and pocket carryable, and that works for me.

I carried a 642 for several years as my only carry gun, and I still carry it on occasion, so I'd most likely go to that, or join haywood and carry a pair of them, which I've also done (IWB + ankle).

I've also been carrying my 1911 Govt Model around the house, so that could be a viable option. I'd have to get a good IWB holster for it before I'd start wearing it out-and-about. I only have a cheap Uncle Mike's IWB, which is generic enough that the gun rocks back-and-forth inside the holster (with bluing wear to show for it), has pretty much zero retention, and reholstering safely can be tricky.

If I were going to buy something new, I've considered getting another 1911 specifically for carry, maybe a Commander or CCO, or go old school and get a Colt Classic or SA Mil-Spec. A Kahr P9 has been on my short list of 9mms I'd like to get for a while. Of course, the Sig 365 would be a good option; I'd have to see how it fits my hands, though.

I've also considered getting a PX4 in .45ACP since I have the Compact in 9mm and really like it, and I'm familiar with the manual-of-arms. I know Beretta has them in their catalog, but I don't think I've ever seen one for sale.

I could just use lower capacity mags for my 92 and PX4, but I have heard that with some guns the reduced capacity mags don't work as well/aren't as reliable. I would probably get some and test for reliability, and put them into service if they work acceptably.

Some days I carry a pistol/revolver with a less that 10 capacity and I live in a state that doesn't restrict capacity.

That would be virtually every day for me. I think my 6906 is the only handgun that I ever carry (rarely) that has a capacity of more than 10.

I have quite a few with higher capacity but I think they're too large to carry. YMMV

Glock 29 Gen3, with Pearce +0 mag extensions, carried IWB.

Or, if carrying openly (which I never do, basically ever...) probably the Coonan in leather OWB.

Same calibers/guns I've carried for many years. Something in 9, .38SPL, .40 & .45 ... only one of which uses magazines of more than 10rds - (12rd/.40) - and I have several 10rd mags for it.

Even when the federal ban came along, and my state enacted its own magazine capacity restriction, I was buying, using and carrying pistols with single digit mag capacities.

I carried one or another hi-cap duty pistol during my career, but I'd started in the revolver days. Back then I'd carried a Commander, Star PD or some revolver off-duty, and I often continued to carry pistols with single stack magazines even while carrying a hi-cap pistol on-duty.

I don't mind carrying my 7 & 8rd 9's, my 7 & 9rd .40's or my 6-8rd .45's. Matter of fact, I finished my LE career carrying an issued 7+1 compact .45 in my plainclothes assignment, and I didn't feel ill-equipped or "under gunned" at all.

Then again, this is the opinion of someone who often carried, and still carries, 5-shot J-frames on my own time. ;)

Chicago has a mag restriction (of course) so I vary by caliber rather than capacity. I do carry moonclips/speedloaders

To me, what is interesting about this question is whether I would carry a smaller gun.

I currently carry a Hi Power. If I was limited to a 10 rd mag, I could still carry it, but I think it would bug me to carry a full sized handgun with a under capacity magazine.

I like revolvers and would carry one some of the time like I do now.

My Keltec PF9 gets some carry time so it would still end up in my pocket occasionally.

My H&K P2000SK would quite possibly take over as my primary belt gun. My Star BM would be a contender. I could also see myself picking up a P938 if I was restricted to 10 rds.

Wow, this thread sure blew up over the last 4 hours!

I'm not a big fan of 9mm, especially not when it comes to firearms with lower capacity magazines. I honestly prefer .380 ACP to 9mm in firearms with limited magazine capacity. I also can't see continuing to carry the exact same firearm with reduced capacity magazines when I can carry something smaller or with larger caliber bullets.

I'd want something subcompact chambered in .40 S&W or .45 ACP. Although I wouldn't be against a Revolver chambered in either .357 Magnum or .45 Long Colt either.

Currently, the subcompact M&Ps are at the top of my list, although I also like the Ruger SR40c, Glock 30, and Walther PPS.

That's why I bought a Glock 26 and not a 19, plus I can still run Glock 19 mags if I ever move to free America.

Virginia is threatening to pass a magazine restriction. This year a 12-round limit failed.

Maybe it would not impact me much, as my normal carry pieces are...
  • Glock 43
  • Glock 26
  • S&W Model 36
